Sounds like it evolved into the very cool (IMO) XLR.

Very, cool, but very pricey. Not worthy of the $70,000+ price tag. At all. Not really sure what they are thinking trying to contend in high end Porche and Mercedes territory.
Very pricey because it's a Cadillac or because it doesn't compare statistically to the aforementioned models? In my opinion, the XLR doesn't complete in name alone.

Doesn't compare? Look again... not to mention it's much less than the SL500.

People blased VW for trying to go upscale with the Phaeton...well...who'd pay $75,000 for a caddy?
Actually I believe they've sold all of the ones they're producing this year. Let me see if I can find a link...

edit: found this tidbit on one site:
Cadillac says it has already received inquiries from 30,000 potential customers wanting more information on XLR. The first 100 cars sold in 10 minutes. Pricing is still very much in question, but should be well north of $76,200.00 when it goes on sale in the fall, we are taking orders with deposits now.

one of the coworkers @ where I work bought a brand new, black cts....IT'S KICKASS!!..although he isn't a baby boomer and of course, that makes him not that young...(roughly late 50's).....
I think that's exactly the age of the older baby boomers, and Cadillac wants to attract them, and the next 15 years worth.

Please re-read my reply. I was asking vi_edit how he thought the Caddy did not compete. I commented how the XLR cannot compete in name alone - implying that it can compete in price and overall aesthetics and peformance.
