The 8800 GT Poll

I want a 8800 GT. Been waiting for them to come back into stock, but at the time of this writing (Dec 7) only the OC or SC versions are in stock anywhere, and only at $300+. Thus I believe the 8800 GT has now become a high end card with a crappy cooler. Would also consider the only mid-range card on the market, the 3870, but this is also out of stock. Thus am waiting till after Xmas, maybe more G92 and HD-3000 models will be released by then.

What is your status on the 8800 GT?

[edit: got my post date wrong above, also added new poll answer]

PS - What are folk's opinions on the OC and SC versions? Since they all seem to have the same coolers, which are reported to suck, I would think that these things will run so hot that the product lifetime will be short.

That's why you gotta get one with the Lifetime Warranty... 😉

🙁 my option isn't on the poll as I'm waiting for the new 8800GTS to launch, see how the prices/performance stacks up not too mention how much cooler they are and the stock quantity of them.

Waiting for something better. We have all these new mid-range cards, and yet no new high-end cards. 🙁

That's exactly my situation. I don't see anything wrong with an 8800 GT and am very tempted to go out and get one, but seeing as we're on the verge of seeing a whole new generation of high-end cards...

Lifetime Warranty ? Yeah right, they send you a roasted step-up card which you
evaluate for them. If not so lucky wait for the next batch of returns or the stock
repacks. If your noisy enough to remind them that this circus has gone on for
the last two months they may upgrade to a newer roasted card. Mean time no
video card.

I hoped on an 8800gt from best buy and now I am waiting for a >200 xfx from dell. Go go best buy return policy.

But... if you do, please do not complain about the prices...

But that's my point, they are overpriced. Thus I'm waiting for the prices to drop. 😛

Actually, I'm also waiting on Age of Conan, so I don't absolutely need it just yet. The only one I'd consider is the bundle with Crysis...which is out of stock. 🙁

Lifetime = the expected product lifetime before it becomes obsolete... typically 1-3 years, Although I have seen one company state it as 6 months.

Got the so hot part right. Seeing people left and right around the net complaining of overheating factory OC'd 8800GTs. My friend just built a new $1000 rig, and he got an eVGA 8800GT SC in his, which overheats and crashes in games unless you lock the fan speed manually at 80% and underclock the core and memory by 50mhz.

It's ridiculous.

you should add the option "8800GTS 320MB owner feeling terrible that a faster card came out at the same price and cant sell his 8800GTS to anyone cause the 8800GT is simply too damn good."

*sigh*

thats a defective card avalon...

If a HS/Fan is not properly seated then it causes much higher temperatures... people are reporting as low as 40c on their cards... others 90c idle... If your card crashes at any time RMA it. (or if you are sufficiently experienced remove and reseat the HS/Fan yourself, but I wouldn't recommend it).

How long ago did you buy the card? anyways, the 320MB GTS was selling for 300+$ on ebay even two weeks after the 8800GT came out... I Doubt it will now since people are no longer unaware. But you snooze you loose.
