I know that the release of the more affordable i9 looms large but a while ago I decided to switch to intel for gaming and dedicate my 1920x to server duties.
The difference between the TR and the intel for gaming is ridiculous. Because I am lazy I used the factory overclock (MCE) which gives me 4.7Ghz on all cores. My RAM is running at 3000Mhz. The 8700k coupled with a gtx 1080 Ti destroys Far Cry 5.
When I was playing with the TR I would get constant jagging even on high. I am currently playing on Ultra @ 3440x1440 with the resolution scale set to 1.2. So good.
For gaming intel is doing everything right. I suspect the consumer level i9 is going to be a gaming monster.
