A lot of sites have their reviews up. The cards appear to be.......Meh/fail, depending on your outlook.

The 6970 looks to be +\- 25% in non dx11 games compared to the 5870. In dx11 though, the card is nearly 50% faster. Its hard to say based on one review, but that falls in line with AMD's statement. Unfortunate its not as fast as the 580, but I guess that is what the 6990 is for.

Thats been the plan for the last couple years, don't see them changing now. Performance is about what I expected. I'd like to see some crossfire results to; I'd assume a 6990 about equal to 6950 Xfire.

The cards are on Newegg right now. The 6950 @ $300 is a great buy. Debating whether or not it's worth the cash at the moment.

It's about 17% faster than the GTX 470 and 10% faster than the HD 5870 and OC'd it can be right at 6970/GTX 570. I think it's the better buy this time around definitely.

Hmm, we don't know about the GTX560 yet though do we? The GTX460 could hit GTX470 levels pretty easily, so if it's possible to take GTX560 to GTX570 levels (might be impossible, who knows), then we might have the price war move up to the upper midrange cards, which would be awesome for everybody.

If in 30-45 days we see 6950 and GTX560 deliver that kind of performance for under $200, then :D :D :D :D

except for Lost Planet 2 they seem like okay cards. I plan on getting Lost Planet 2 though and even the 6970 sucks extremely bad in it. I mean they are not even remotely close to Nvidia cards in that game. yes I know its an Nvidia title but AMD does just fine in the other ones such as Mafia 2.

It varies hugely between games.. they perform worse in DiRT 2 too.. and that's AMD's title.

Then hurry if you feel that way

GTX 480 and HD 5870 are being EoL'd; it might be a good time for a multi-GPU setup

I'm feeling ok about my 5870 purchase 11 months ago, as well as the 6950 that we just purchased for my dad (eyefinity setup - great choice for that IMO). I also think the GTX570 is a great card and was that was a really fine launch by nvidia. And if you are so inclined a great deal on a 5870 or a 470 is a solid option as well.

More competition and choices are always a good thing. Basically the 69X0 were talked up a bit too much, that's about it. After the smoke and expectations clear a bit I think things might look a bit more even.

I just bought a GTX 460 that came broken and I am in a process of RMAing it lol. I may grab a GTX 480 if I see one at a nice price but I already had my fun with the HD 5850 not interested in the HD 5000 series unless a REALLY nice offer comes along.
EDIT: Also apoppin nice job on the review.

What is a nice price? My GTX 480 is a nice and powerful GPU with only my GTX 580 really surpassing it. The only issue is if your are sensitive to noise; it will get your attention even while you are gaming. i had no issues because i am used to HD 4870-X2 and CF. You might try to find a non-reference OC'd one if you want a quieter card.

i think HD 6970 is a decent card. It is GTX 570 performance, more or less depending which games you play. i think they will eventually be the same price. i don't see the HD 6950 as good a deal as the HD 5850 was compared to the HD 5870. And overclocking is limited for it only by CCC; that was silly on AMD's part for the reviewers - they should have got a real O/C'ing tool to us reviewers.

Thanks - i am still fixing typos and adding images. i wish to heck that we had more time to spend with these cards; they didn't get the drivers to some of us until Friday because their server crashed and my own cards were a day late. And i am *exhausted* with no real sleep for 3 days.

Yes, the HD 5870 is still a powerful card; i'd say the HD 6950 is pretty close in performance to it which is a testament to the older card. It just lacks in tessellation. GTX 570 and GTX 580 were real surprises to most people - probably AMD included; Charlie said Fermi was "unfixable" on 40 nm

And the issue with 69x0 is with the ridiculous expectations created by some of its fans for it. Some people should never post here again out of shame - and never be taken seriously neither - but that will never happen

According to Tweaktown's numbers...the 6970 does look like a good, solid option for a single-card solution, and it's price is definitely right.

Two-card solutions will still beat it of course both in performance and cost but the 6970 is still competitive.

Can't believe I'm going to say but he could/should have been right. 40 nm should have been history before the 580 released.

I was hoping to wait to upgrade my 4850X2 till I could get something I knew I could do single card eyefinity at good settings in most games, I dunno if the 6970 is going to do that :(

I guess I could go 6950, and when I build a new rig in the next 8-12 months, get another and go xfire. or go 570 now and do a SLI/xfire setup with that and leave the 570 in this for using on my 3d dlp
