will it beat the gtx580?
The card has 96 texture units, as well as 24 SIMD and 1536 ALU streaming processors. It has 32 ROPs and 128 Z stencils.

I doubt it.

AMD will officially launch Radeon HD 6970 and 6950 on the December 15th 5AM European Time and December 14th 08.00 PM California

The estimated availability date is also interesting as the noted retailer/e-tailer claims that the HD 6950 should be available on December 11th while the HD 6970 is scheduled for December 23rd.

Remember when you were called out months ago for posting Fudzilla rumors as though they were true?

Guess you didn't learn.

I don't care what your views on Fudzilla are. If you post a rumor from Fud, the thread title should indicate as much.

We have been over this practice before.

I would be fine with banning Fudzilla if we can also ban Semiaccurate who is far worse IMHO.

Given that on launch day, with multiple reviews stating its MSRP was $350 and cards in stock at Newegg all at that price point, Fudzilla's announcement that the 570 will actually launch at $330 pretty much sums it up: Fud swings wildly and hopes to occasionally hit.

Most of the time, it doesn't.

I don't care for the idea of banning sites, but those regularly reporting rumors or misinformation should be labeled as such ("Rumor:")

This information seems far from a rumor.

I find the clock speed kinda high for a high end part , mabe they upped them to match the gtx580?
Only 1532 sp's, I thought it was 1900?

Okay agreed with you on that there. Yeah your right the article should be a named rumour.

Happy I don't think amd 6970 will come out swinging. To be honest they may bring something new to the table. Judging by the performance of nvidia new cards I am going to say this round is Nvidia. When I checked the stats. Amd had the fastest dx11 cards for a couple months but when Nvidia finally woke up and come out with their dx11 400 series. They were fast but due to heat, noise and power draw customer didn't find it that attractive. The 480 was a beast and took its crown but it had it faults. Now Nvidia has 570 basically a 480 with all it's issues fixed and ready to kick ass. Right now what will amd bring to beat the 580? Amd has two cards to take on. Now fermi has been refine and is on the table. Amd has to come out with atleast 5-10% more performance than a 580 with it's high end offering. Nvidia have them by the balls.

I thought it was common knowledge by now that SP count means little without knowing how they work.

I'm kinda hoping 69xx is slower than 5xx with pricing to match.

A 6950 at about $300-$350 and then dropping over time would suit me just fine.

The argument was with 1900 4d shaders that the 6970 would be only slightly faster then the gtx 580. I hope the 1500 figure is for the 6950.

Can you add fudzilla to the title.. its a bit misleading.

From the first sentence of the article........

"We got some official data about AMD's Radeon HD 6970 card codenamed Cayman XT"

Where do you see rumor?

Post on topic or please don't post.

You should hope that 69xx is faster than 5xx but with equal pricing. That will force overall prices down which benefits us all.

Please link to the official AMD source where this information was originally taken from. I am very interested.

In other news, I have received some official data from high up sources that the 6970 will make your farts smells like pecan butter tarts. Believe me?

Leaked Info pulled from a post in guru3d forum

Radeon HD 6950

First important information is ‘leaked’ specification which surfaced by Chinese websites. Radeon HD 6950 “Cayman Pro” will be equipped with 1536 stream processors and 32 raster operating units. Core clock is set to 800MHz by stock. Computing speed is measured at 2.4 TFLops. Radeon HD 6950 will support 2GB GDDR5 memory running on 256bit bus width. Memory clock is probably 1250MHz (5000 effective). This suggest memory bandwidth near 160GB/s.
New Radeon will consume up do 217W of energy while in stress and 19W idle. In order to connect 6950 you will need 6pin connector. This card should have two DVI, one DisplayPort and HDMI outputs by default.

Who knows if it's true or not as with all the other rumors floating around.

6970

"Total compute power of Cayman in this version is 2.7 TeraFlops "
"The card runs at 880MHz and the card has the memory that runs at quite impressive 5.5GBps"
http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/item/21155-radeon-hd-6970-runs-at-880mhz

So this does look like a 6970, the only thing I don't understand is the 1536 sp's.

I'm sure the 6950 needs more then one pci-e connector?

How old is that post?

From the article I linked in first post.

"We got some official data about AMD's Radeon HD 6970 card codenamed Cayman XT. The card runs at 880MHz and the card has the memory that runs at quite impressive 5.5GBps. The memory of choice is GDDR5 in 256-bit flavour and the card has 2GB of it"

What is wrong with you? Where is the reference to the original information from AMD..

We got some official data about AMD's Radeon HD 20231postWW3 card codenamed Apocalypse XT and its 1000% faster than the flagship Nvidia card... it is slated for release after world war 3.
See.. now busydude has some official information from AMD. Create a new thread.. with the info I gave you.

can we please discuss the context of this "official data" and not wether you believe it or not. Thank you.

The power consumtion is not too bad 190 watts at gaming level and 250 watts tdp.
