No it isn't, the 6600 GT will still live on with an MSRP of 149US for the 128MB version.

this is a repost?????

btw, a comparison of a 6600GT to an oced 6600 DDR2 would have been nice.

My 6600GT runs at 550 MHz/1.1GHz. The 6600GT is far from dead. Not only that, but THG compared it with a x1300 Pro. Why not throw in a 6600GT, 6800, and x800 GT/GTO into the mix to give some basis for comparison.

6600s have OC'ed like mad since day one. They got nothing on an overclocked GT, but they've always been an excellent value (only if you OC).

I've recommended OC'ed 6600s to several people who were strapped for cash but looking for a video card upgrade (most of whom were GeForce 5200 owners, poor suckers).

The point is good performance for less money. MSRP is 99 bucks. Maybe you'll see a few rouge dealers selling it for like 90 bucks AR or 85 bucks AR. That would be an awesome deal on a card that would have similar performance Oced to a stock 6600GT. DEf a great value.

So unless there's something i'm missing, this seems almost too good to be true for budget buyers...

A reference PCI-E 6600GT at stock speeds is 500/1000. That 6600 overclocks to 537/988 which is 37mhz more than the 6600GT on the core and 12mhz less on the memory than the 6600GT. I have a Leaktek 6600GT Extreme version which clocks in at 550/1120 stock. I managed to overclock it to 600/1200 which is insane. To me that 6600 DDR2 is nothing to get excited over:D

Nice card, $99 gets you almost the same performance as a 6600GT but with the added bonus of 256MB of ram.

Linkage

Questions on that link.... i couldnt find anywhere that stated how much memory the 6600gt had. If this is in fact a benchmark with a 6600gt with 256mb of memory a 6600 ddr2 would be the much better deal.

The 6600gt's that sell for around $140 are the 128mb versions, whereas the 256mb models are still selling for over $200

Agree. I held a torch for them for awhile, now I don't even have them bookmarked. Today watching them in action is like the special olympics of online journalism.

LOL!

Anyway, these cheap fast 6600's are about the only good argument that I see for SLI... Two of these should devastate a 6800GS :D
