Did they file the proper forms for Not-for-profit status? Have they or will they be filing their taxes?
Those are good questions, I cannot seem to find the answers. There does not seem to be any reporting in the media regarding the situation.

The Finance / Accounting Working Group is the accounting arm of the NYCGA. Our open public meetings are Friday at 5:30 pm in the Atrium at 60 Wall Street and our desk hours are Tuesday – Saturday from 1 – 5 pm at the 50 Broadway office (12th floor).

The money is supposed to be distributed via committee. Not sure if they have audits though.
Looking at some of the expenditures they list, its a tiny fraction of the 500K and there are quite a bit of line items that offer no details. It just would say for example.
