No shock here that the bible belt looks pretty uneducated. Eastern kentucky and Western Texas look real bad. Even central california looks bad. Anyone here go to HS in eastern kentucky or in any of the other white areas?

I went to two high schools in the bible belt (decades ago). My first HS was rated top 25 at one point - we had 25 national merit finalists in my class. My second HS was kind of a joke though in a much wealthier area - I was the only national merit finalist in my class and they did a newspaper article on me even though their school system had nothing to do with it. My son attends a high school that does fairly poorly on most of these metrics but they actually have a 102% AP pass rate (I assume they measure it as total AP tests passed / total AP students).

I think high school has gotten easier in general to cater to the lower end students. I know my kids have not been educated in a lot of areas that I was.

Yeah, but make sure that you don't mention that roughly 80% of black folks are contained within your assertion of "bible belt" states since that doesn't align with your assertions.

But please, continue to place your head within your anus for it is quite entertaining.

So your upset he doesn't make it about race, yet dont really debate the statement.

Like it or not, the south east trails behind most of the country wrt education.

Not sure what you're saying. Maybe when I said white you were thinking I ment white people. No I was talking about the white area on the maps because it's NOT about race it's about poor education.

Kentucky is 87% white as off the 2010 census and has that huge white are on the map which is the worst of the uneducated.

It seems to be about socioeconomic status. Not sure if you are using "Bible belt" to imply Christians are stupid or if you are using the term to refer to a geographic area.

I still believe a motivated student with a motivated parent or two can get a good education that prepares them for college or a trade school at just about any high school. I don't think Americans value education as much as we should because we are drunk on the idea of being due our "piece of the pie" without having to really earn it.

I'd say that's another map the South shouldn't be proud of.

Seeing the disparity compared to red states out west, it would seem some other metric is at play here.

Of all the schools listed that are in California, all but one are in Silicon Valley. Of course the best schools are going to be in the most expensive areas in the country.

The threshold for how motivated you need to be to succeed gets higher though and your sense of 'good enough' gets thrown off by your local comparison group

Both and I never said stupid I said uneducated. And because a lot of the bible belt states are ignoring science then they are lumped into the uneducated or ignorant.

who links business insider with their forced ads

Sorry for your inconvenience but that's where the story came from. I would normally copy paste most of the article but it was too long. And a lot of the news sites I visit are doing that now. So I oblige them and turn off the blocker for those sites. And its probably going to get worse.

Holy shat, tons of the best ones (so they say) are in Illinois.

Chicago has a number of very good college prep schools, but, they also have some really awful schools.
Stevenson High School is a huge school in a very well funded area of the the NW burbs of Chicago.

I suspect all 50 of the schools are either 1.) rich suburban districts, or 2) prep schools for the top students of big cities.

I counted them and it looks like out of the 50, 18 are prep or magnets. But the top 5 are all prep, special whatever you want to call them, schools.
