The 45.23's suck

Sold my 9800 Pro
Got a 5900 Ultra
Figure I'll use the latest drivers, 45.23's
Run 3Dmark, and it just looked slower, and in fact was way slower than my 9800 (!)

Something's got to be wrong here, so I throw on the 44.03's
immediate 12-15% increase in all framrate scores.

Plus, the .03's LOOK better, w/ no "cheating" visual quality suckiness,
the newer ones have phony speed "optimizations" that degrade visuals, etc...

just out of curiosity, why did you sell your 9800pro and get an 5900U? have you tried the new 51.75 or even the beta 60.xx drivers? they are supposed to be optimized for nVidia FX cards. BTW, i have a ti4200, and i don't like the 45.23s much either. infact i'm using the 43.45s.
 
the 45.23 suck because performance lowers without the cheats. picture quality wise, i don't know

I will submit counter-points to your observations based on my experience with Det's and the 5800Ultra 😀 I just ran 3Dmock with the 45.23's which I installed yesterday and beat my best score of 6070 [/b]*44.71's which have been better in everything I've tested vs the 44.03's*[/b] by 8 points 45.23's Unfortunately I can't show them head to head since I can only publish one project at a time so if you check the URL and would like to see the 44.71's for reference just ask 🙂

In Aquamark3 my score went from 36,xxx with the 44.71's to 45,xxx with the 45.23's and my subjective opinion reflects just what Driverheaven showed, there was no perceptable loss of IQ. However, with the 51.75's I scored 49,xxx with IQ that was astonshingly bad, particularly in the massive vegetation test, not to mention they had more bugs than a gheto. They would cause browser lock-ups when I opened multiple windows, and since like most I open 15-20 windows for diffirent sites sometimes more I detonated them without further evaluation 😉

My games look just as good as they did with the 44.71's and FRAPS shows a slight improvement in some so I'm sticking with these until something better comes along from my subject perspective. In the final analysis I think it's best that users compare performance between drivers for themselves and not be gun shy because they don't meet the criteria/performance standards for a particular individual and their hardware. If someone would care to link the 60 series I will be happy to try them and post my results 🙂
