The 4.3.4 update bricked my iPad

1st gen iPad that has never given me any kind of issue at all before. Couldn't say I expected this to happen at all. I plugged my iPad into my PC to get the update and it began updating. The screen eventually became all black except for a silver apple in the middle of the screen. Then iTunes said unknown error the iPad could not be updated. Now my iPad is sitting here with a black screen except for a silver apple logo sitting in the middle of the screen. It's not responding to any user input at all, the PC doesn't make the USB plug in sound when I plug it in or unplug it, and I can't even turn it off.

Suggestions?

Edit: Seems like after ten minutes of being stuck, the screen changed telling me to plug it back into iTunes and now it's doing a recovery. Everything's good now and it's running 4.3.4. That was odd.

back in the days of ios 2 and iphone 2G/3G - it was not normal for updates to brick the phones and force DFU recovery. seen it many times. why i skipped the early years of ios :) really buggy back then. the strangeness still happens

odd to say the least

*edit. what a bunch of crap. lost all my apps and it seems to be running slower than it used to. what a pos update..i dunno what the update, updated, but nothing i notice other than running like crap.

This worked for me on my iPhone, maybe it will work for your iPad 1 - http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1147821

Only problem is you need to be jailbroken to apply the fix. :(
