God that is outrageously expensive. I could see this being a nice deal for people looking for a 16GB kit, but what programs can make good use of 16GB over 8GB?

The same amount in 2GB sticks would be about $200, so while it is significantly more expensive, I'm not sure it's outrageous. It is annoying though.

I think right now, 4GB sticks mainly appeal to Mini-ITX boxes with only 2 slots (that's what I want it for). I'm sure they're also useful for packing tons of memory into servers. (although not this specific set, since they're not ECC)

Or people that use CS5 and edit crazy big photoshop files or have tons of layers in aftereffects, or use samples in audio recording with 20+ layers etc....

i really miss the 35$-20$ MIR for 2x2GB of DDR2 deals :(
RAM got so expensive this past year...

anyways, this deal is hot... these are 4GB sticks...

As for what programs use that much, plenty of programs... mainly media creation or databases.

Yeah, I think we all got spoiled by 2x2GB DDR2-800 for $20 and 2x2GB DDR2-1066 for $30. Those were the days. I should've bought a lot more of it, since it is now 3-4 times the price. :(

I've been watching prices for 4GB sticks and this is the cheapest I've seen so far, other than OCZ which I refuse to buy. Wintec seems to have pretty good ratings (4-5 stars on Newegg) on their other varieties of RAM.

Why do you refuse to buy OCZ?

I'll tell you what, I bought a pack of OCZ 2x1GB memory like 6 years ago... one of the sticks came DOA and I finally decided to send it back. They accepted the RMA (and they offer a lifetime warranty on their products) just a few weeks ago... but not only did they just replace it, they gave me a 2x2GB with faster timings and shippin was literally only 2 days!!! I have no complaints with OCZ!

Their reviews are full of DOAs, much more so than any other manufacturer I've seen. Why support a seller of such obviously shoddy goods? I'd rather pay a few dollars extra than take on a substantial risk of failure and the hassle of returning it. I also recall an exposé of their shady business practices from MANY years ago that I can no longer locate on the internets. After reading that I was amazed to see them remain in business over the years. I can't recall the details of it anymore which is unfortunate. It had to have been around 2001-2002.

I really don't understand why you'd defend them when their RAM failed you and they have such obvious, persistent problems with that. I've never had any RAM die on me. Even if some did die, if the company had otherwise good reviews, I'd just chalk it up to random chance. But with OCZ it's obviously a pattern of poor integrity. I'd rather they just go out of business, so I'm trying to do my tiny part in helping them achieve that.

The G.Skill is now at $255! And the DDR3 1066 version is $245.

I'm glad I've waited... the question is, how low will it go?

i got lucky on ebay and was able to get 3 4gb sticks of ddr3-1333 for $240 - bing cash back and ebates.

prices on 4gb dimms seem to be falling a bit to barely more than 2 2gb dimms, but 2gb dimms seem to be rising still.

Onw of the things that is holding me back from upgrading is the price of ram. I have 8GB in my E8400 system. To get anywhere near that in an icore system it is very spendy.

I stopped using OCZ after I had two sets of RAM go bad on me from them. I'm a Corsair guy only now :)
