The 2d quality of Geforce GTS with Iiyama 22" sucks! Need advise...

I have the retail Creative Geforce 32mb GTS and the 2d quality is really bad. Especially at high resolutions like 1600x1200 at 100hz the quality is terrible. I tried different resolutions and hz, but the problem is still there. It is slightly better at 1280x960 at 85hz, but when I up the hz the image gets really fuzzy.
Am I just unlucky with my Geforce? I am a gamer, so I want the power the GTS has to offer, but I'm also an internet addict, so I want the 2d quality.
I did a search and I know this is a known problem, but do you think it's worth to buy an other videocard? For example an Asus. I'm only looking at brands like Creative, Hercules and Asus (easier to resell in Holland) and I don't want to spend more than $200,-. What shall I do?

Well the Geforce 2's are pretty well known for having poor 2D quality, so I doubt if it would matter much if you switched brands. If you decide that the poor 2D bugs you enough that you want to buy another video card, definately go with a Radeon. I have a Radeon and the Iiyama Visionmaster pro510 and the 2D and 3D quality is excellent, and its very fast for games as well.

As you can see I have a similar setup and I experience the same problems to. Mine also deteriorates at 1600 x 1200. With a monitor such as yours you really picked the best card IMO for gaming but the monitor deserves a better card if your running professional software and/or 2D stuff.

I do believe that the Radeon will give you superior 2D, but your gaming will suffer slightly. You might be better off with the Radeon as Comp10 says.

I think you will either just have to put up with it or change card and suffer the loss of 3D speed as a result or even hope that the NV20 or summut similar has better filters to achieve crisper 2D.😉

Unfortunately, this is a well known issue with GF2 cards. This is the reason I didn't buy one. Hopefully, you can return it. Get yourself a Radeon and you will see a large improvement.

I believe some ppl have said Elsa is a little better with 2D quality than others. Still, for that res, I'd use nothing less than a V5 5500 or a Radeon. They'll save you some cash, too.

sorry man

2d on the GTS was one of the reasons I dumped it in favor of a 5500

it's not the *brand* of GTS, either. They all look like $hit

yup, i posted a thread about this last week. radeon or v5 definitely. I went to hawks room and saw his radeon 64mb vivo in action, it kinda blurred a little at 1600x1200x75hz, but at 70hz it was better, might be his monitor its some cheap acer 19" that he hates now. i've had a v4 and v5 and i can say that its razor sharp at 1600x1200x75hz on my cheap kds 19"

Thanks for your replies guys. If I can sell my GTS for a good price and find a hot deal on a Radeon, I'll make the switch. My pro510 definately needs a better card for 2d.
Let's hope the NV20 will be a lot better with the 2D....

you know you can get your gts fixed to give better image quality that is equal to the voodoo 5500. Go over to the avsforum.com and check out their forums. There is a guy over there that will modify your card to give it better image quality. I am not sure how much it costs though.

Martijnos, any particular reason you're not gonna check out the 5500?

they're about $130 from BestBuy after a pricematch with onvia.com and a $30 coupon.

that is, IMHO, far and away the best deal going.
