I read soemwhere that Nomar was in first for NL shortstops. How does a guy who played, what, 30 games on the list? Wasn't he also in a hitting slump during those 30 games? Everyone also knows he is no shape to play the all star game. Do the NL shortstops suck that bad?

i'm glad they can only vote for the starting lineup. gives managers a chance to put in guys who really deserve to go.

Izturis leads the NL in hits, and won the gold glove at SS last year. He's my pick for NL SS. Ignoring Garciapara and Furcal, he has more hits, more runs, more RBI and a better fielding average then Eckstein who's on a better team. Barmes stats are close (Many more HR, but not great fielding).

the NL team will resemble:

1B: Derek Lee
2B: Kazuo Matsui
3B: David Wright
SS: Jose Reyes
C: Mike Piazza
OF: Mike Cameron
OF: Carlos Beltran
OF: Cliff Floyd

that seems about right

you cant vote against barmes as the most deserving NL SS to go to the all-star game as of right now...
he leads NL SS in HR, RBI, Runs, Slg, and is second in average...

Since both Izturis and Barmes are deserving, hopefully Garciappara gets voted. Then the manager can select one as the replacement starter and one as the backup. That's better then the fans waking up and voting in either Eckstein or Furcal.
