Please correct this to show that Quicken and Turbotax State are only free when you buy Turbotax. Your list is very misleading.

Turbo state tax is not available until 1/31/01. So you cannot get something that is not available.

What is required for the Norton Antivirus upgrader rebate? I have a copy of Norton System Works, would that qualify? Sorry about the previous blank post, I thought I was just login, not posting.

Okay, you have to buy Tax Cut Deluxe to get most of the other software free (after rebate). The other software requies you to buy some tax software to get it free. FYI: Tax Cut Deluxe is currently $24.95 at Staples.

Where is this thread about in store coupos mentioned above? I searched ALL forums and did not find it.

Hello folks,
Staples in my area are running this special this week. Here's how it goes:
You can use any copy of Turbotax, but the best deal is using the $20 basic edition
You can have EITHER norton antivirus OR personal firewall..not both (can someone illuminate me here? The rebate specifies 'OR' but what about 2 rebate coupons???))
"Enclose proof of previous ownership of a retail..stand alone version of any Norton software product or any software product from McAfee by furnishing the origional product CD, diskette #1, title page of manual, or your confirmation email from your download purchase"
There is a physical $30 rebate coupon you need to pick up from your local staples. It's a symantec coupon, no copies accepted.

So... get:
turbotax basic $20
Norton antivirus $50
Quicken basic $30
($1 of whatever to make $100 total)

- $25 off $100
- $30 rebate toward any quicken product (found in turbotax box)
- $20 upgrade rebate (found in Norton box)
- $30 mail in Rebate (from local staples)

= -5 (plus tax)

if you CAN use two of the $30 symantec coupons, get get the other Norton product from Office depot who have a $10 off $50 coupon available :) "products need not be purchased on the same receipt"

Good info Carpenter and thanks Mystic.

About how they enforce only one Norton rebate: maybe its the same rebate form and you check which one you bought?

Well, I squinted hard at the fine print and read:
"offer good for only one person per organization". and later "requests for multiple rebates from groups, clubs or organizations will not be honored". So it would appear you can only get both if you have more than one organization/address

Sorry,
what I was squinting so hard to read was printed on the hardcopy rebate coupon I have here (from the local staples).
All the information I wrote was taken from the various rebate coupons.

What does it mean by furnishing the original product CD or title page of manual??? Do I have to tear a page off and send it?

Is it the word "Furnishing" that you have problems with? Yes, it means you have to send them the title page (the inside page from the manual, not the cover), or the original product CD, in order to get the upgrade rebate.

carpenteraunt -- the best short-term deal may be to buy TT basic but unless you live in a state with no income tax, or don't need a program to do it, you are much better off spending the extra $10 Iafter rebate) and buying TT Deluxe (or Taxcut Deluxe) and getting the state software included. You do have to buy TT State and send in for the rebate. I believe the download is free with Taxcut. Also, if there is a $10 off $40 Staples coupon valid when the state program comes out, you could use that to get most of your $40 purchsae and maybe end up making some money on that part of the deal!

As for the Norton rebates. There is a $20 rebate in the box which is good only with an upgrade. The $30 piece in the ad is good with the purchase of any tax software. You can do a $20 rebate for each Norton product but it appears that the $30 rebate can *only* be done one time which means that you can get Norton Firewall or Norton Antivirus free, but not both. This is a real problem because the 12/2 Staples ad said that you can get both. I intend to go see my local store manager tomorrow and either return one of them or get them to refund me the $30.

You are of course, absolutely right. That's true of most people. I wasn't thinking of the fact I was a special case...I already have access to the turbotax deluxe with the state software. I'm just giving the basic edition away to some friends who can't afford either (and are too old to feel comfortable playing the rebate game).
