What dreamers they were back in 1918.

Anyway is it appropriate to say Happy Veterans day? It seems a day for mourning the dead.

Vets dont die, they just get rotated out to that big duty station in the sky. Or re-issued a body for a "2nd tour".

I found it amazing there are still a handful of vets left. I was reading about a 107 year old vet on cnn this morning.

My great-grandfather served in WWI and he died about a year ago. It was very interesting to talk to him about such experiences he had.

?When our perils are past, shall our gratitude sleep?? - George Canning

Veteran's Day is a day of remembrance, not mourning. It is a day to remember and honor those who gave their everything so that we could have anything. If you live in one of the blessed nations who's freedoms and way of life have and continue to inspire its citizens to offer their very lives for them, then you should be happy, for your good fortune has been earned by those that came before you and is continuously paid for in full by those that still answer the call of duty and sacrifice.

In Flander's Fields, the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place, and in the sky,
the larks, still bravely singing, fly
scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow
Loved and were loved, but now we lie
In Flander's Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe.
To you with failing hands we throw
the torch, be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep.
Though poppies blow in Flander's Fields.

"Flanders Fields", by Dr. John McCrae, a Canadian doctor who died in WW1. Most Canadian schoolchildren recite this poem evey Rememberance day.
