So just because something is written after someone dies, that person is no longer part of the historical record? You don't write about history as it's happening. Jesus lived in the armpit of the Roman empire. No one is going to write about him while he's alive. Only after his death forms a religion is anyone going to remotely care about him.

And in response to the James Ossuary, the IAA has been back and forth on it. "If authentic, it would have been the first archaeological proof that Jesus existed beyond the manuscript tradition." (BAR)

The IAA has never shown any proof that it's a forgery, and the Royal Ontario Museum, BAR, and Hershel Shanks all stand behind it's authenticity.

I recognize almost every name on this list, but I think "most influential" here is severely slanted towards Western culture. There's also some on the list who will be totally forgotten in ten years (Buffy the Vampire Slayer???) Lots of influential but currently little recognized names were left off, too.
