I just watched the first 8 episodes of The 100 on Netflix, and to my surprise it's not bad.

It's about a bunch of teens and young adults that are expendable "criminals" ranging from light slap-on-the-right types to hardcore criminals, who are sent down to earth from an orbiting space station to check earth out. Earth needs to be checked out because there was a nuclear war and it became radioactive, so during the war earth sent people to the space station, and then they stayed there for generations before considering going back down.

At first I thought it was going to be 90210 in space/on earth and unfortunately the first couple of episodes kind of were like that, but afterwards the show got a bit grittier, with better writing. I'm optimistic, as the latter group of episodes were overall pretty decent.

BTW, I'm in Canada. It's on Netflix in Canada, but I don't know about in the US. It's on the CW for sure, but probably not Netflix in the USA.

Official CW website for The 100

Set 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization, when a spaceship housing humanity's lone survivors sends 100 juvenile delinquents back to Earth in hopes of possibly re-populating the planet.

BTW, the show recycles several actors from Battlestar Galactica and other Canadian-filmed sci-fi series. I guess that makes sense because it's shot in Vancouver.

So I guess it's not on Netflix in the US then? Just how popular is The CW?

Haven't watched any others.

I heard a main character already died.
Yes, sort of. They set up someone as a pseudo-main character and then killed that one off quickly, almost as character development for other characters.

First episode was pretty bad.

Yeah, I wasn't impressed by the first one either. It does get significantly better though. It's not high-brow by any means, and does retain some of the teen-aspect of it, but nowhere near as 90120ish as the first couple of episodes.
