Based on the number of college freshman who are making it their career choice, accounting is the new 'sexy' college major. Yes, accounting.

The top 10 most in-demand college majors:

1. Accounting
2. Electrical engineering
3. Mechanical engineering
4. Business administration/management
5. Economics/finance
6. Computer science
7. Computer engineering
8. Marketing/marketing management
9. Chemical engineering
10. Information sciences and systems

Woooooooooooooooooot.

<--- graduated with a B.S. in Economics and a B.A. in Accounting this last June, getting my masters in tax accounting this next year.

Something's fishy about that list, none of those are liberal arts fields.

I don't know why people are be excited about having the most popular major.

won't it lead to more people in your field, decreasing your personal value to your employer, lowering wages, and making new jobs within the field harder to find due to increased competition?

does anyone know the stats for # of people who actually not make it in their declared majors and went for something else half way through their college careers?

Not in tax accounting. Auditing's where the dilution will eventually happen.

Not yet. Hoping to get a part-time bookkeeping job while attending school and see how it goes from there.

Based on the number of college freshman ...

Maybe half of those EE and CS freshman will graduate with a EE/CS degree. The other half will fail or end up with the rest of the washouts in Communications.

I'm a Crop Science major, and the way I see it if everyone in the world was a crop scientist we would have no problems. If everyone was an accountant, I think we'd all just be adding up the minutes until our own demise.

I'm now starting junior year of accounting. I really only got into it after taking Accounting I for a business degree, which I switched obviously.

Seemed more useful, guess I was right.
