A woman dressing as a man to swindle large quantities of money has been detained in the Binaghadi district of Baku.
The 27-year old Taleya Mammadova wearing a man?s suit had deceived people, saying that his sister was engaged in charity by helping low-income families to purchase apartments for affordable prices, investigators said.
To carry out the goal, Mammadova got acquainted with a woman named Rena Huseynova and then said that she liked her daughter Shamsiyya. Introducing herself as a man named Taleh, she further sent to their home a Nishan (a group of people who under tradition visit a potential bride?s residence to propose).
After the engagement, Taleya Mammadova swindled the girl?s relatives out of a total of $157,500. Each family member sustained financial damage ranging between $14,000 and $30,000.
It is indicative that Taleya, according to her own confession, did not avoid intimacy. Using an artificial organ, she raised no doubts in her fiancée.
She spent a part of the appropriated money to buy gold and the rest was squandered.
The Binaghadi district investigation department has started a criminal case on charges on embezzlement of property and inflicting considerable financial damage. She now faces between seven and 12 years in jail with the confiscation of property.*
