Indeed. Her perception (in this case, that she was being condescended to) defined her reality.

The other girl doesn't explain it any better, she just wasn't intimidated by her. I agree with Fatty's frustration, her taking the position that she's normal and 'nerds' are not, is the problem, not the way he talks.
meh, if he had any social skills he'd have used her terminology. instead of getting hung up on her calling it the 'box,' he should have just went along with it. 'the part you need to change is inside that box. it opens up after removing a door on the side.'

Oh no doubt, he could have handled it better, but not everyone is a teacher (for the record I object to acquiescing to incorrect terminology... she wouldn't have learned correctly, he should have looked for a common ground analogy).

I think the LEAST someone desiring education can do is meet the instructor halfway with an open mind. This girl condemned herself to not learning anything from the big guy because of her inability to listen non-judgementally. It's not his fault she won't learn what he's trying to teach, it's squarely hers.

Nerd guy: Pretend my head is the "BOX" and we want to change my brain. Now my brain is not in front or behind my head but inside. So we have to open my head inorder to change my brain.

Something along those lines and I think she would have got it. You just have to think like the idiot you are trying to teach.

nah, that wouldn't work because it sounded like she didn't have a brain so there's no way she could know what one is.

True:p

It'd be funny if they put a big CRT monitor next to the "box" and she tried to take the monitor apart :D

My grandma thought that the tower was actually the modem, and the screen was the computer.
