No that's not a PC, that's a box. OMG. She wasn't listening to a thing he was saying.

I hate dealing with people like that. You have to repeat the same thing over and over, for 20-30 minutes before it'll finally sink in. Then they'll come back later and ask the same question, to which you have to repeat the process over again :(

If they spoke fscking English it would take 5 minutes to explain everything. It's their damn language and their vague terms.

Or not, maybe she's just really stupid.

i think she actually does know what "inside" means, its most likely that she's being stubborn, and thinking "dude, i asked him if its in front or back, why is he saying the inside". She just wasn't listening,a nd when she heard "inside", she most likely assumed it was a computer term, and that the geeks were trying to talk her down.

after thinking over this a little bit, there have been times where i've been asked to do stuff i've never been done before. I then got really nervous and ended up not thinking correctly because i was so worried about screwing it up and stuff.

maybe thats what happened here? i dunno, just a thought.

Indeed. Her perception (in this case, that she was being condescended to) defined her reality.

The other girl doesn't explain it any better, she just wasn't intimidated by her. I agree with Fatty's frustration, her taking the position that she's normal and 'nerds' are not, is the problem, not the way he talks.

It was like explaining technology to an infant. She was incredibly close minded, arrogant and just plain stupid as it relates to computers. I guess he couldn't show her an actual "box" to help her understand her ignorance? I mean my mother is an absolute computer cripple but at least she has the intelligence to not call it a "BOX" .

The fact that she insisted on calling it a "box" after he (the expert in his field) called it a PC which has the parts in it made me want to reboot her right out the Window(s).

Just ... sigh

Meh, I've dealt with plenty of people like that who wanted to build their own PC. If you can't even wrap your head around the fact that it's the 'box' that does the computing, and that just an empty case won't do crap but being pretty (or not), building a PC is not for you.

you open the freakin box, pull that freakin chip out, put another in. Close the box. Unless that freakin heatsink+fan is too tight, then it would be trouble :D

meh, if he had any social skills he'd have used her terminology. instead of getting hung up on her calling it the 'box,' he should have just went along with it. 'the part you need to change is inside that box. it opens up after removing a door on the side.'

Nah, I don't believe a grown woman like the one we saw on the vid can be so incredibly ignorant. They made it up.

Oh no doubt, he could have handled it better, but not everyone is a teacher (for the record I object to acquiescing to incorrect terminology... she wouldn't have learned correctly, he should have looked for a common ground analogy).

I think the LEAST someone desiring education can do is meet the instructor halfway with an open mind. This girl condemned herself to not learning anything from the big guy because of her inability to listen non-judgementally. It's not his fault she won't learn what he's trying to teach, it's squarely hers.

Nerd guy: Pretend my head is the "BOX" and we want to change my brain. Now my brain is not in front or behind my head but inside. So we have to open my head inorder to change my brain.

Something along those lines and I think she would have got it. You just have to think like the idiot you are trying to teach.

nah, that wouldn't work because it sounded like she didn't have a brain so there's no way she could know what one is.
