Texas rules. Hands down. That's why I hate living up here in the North (Virginia) And yes it's the North!

No local taxes besides property taxes and a portion of excise/sales tax.
Generally, 8.25% sales tax.
No income tax.

You tend to pay more in excise/sin taxes in things like liquor and beer. And property taxes are higher, but in the end the tax burden is much lower - and there are less toll roads than in the northeast.

As conservative as Texas is, the liquor laws are MUCH better than in Connecticut - you can buy beer/wine until midnight every day, 1 AM on Sunday morning. Liquor sales to 9 PM, closed Sunday - it's not California, but it's better than 9 PM/closed Sunday like up there :)

With Republicans at the helm, there will never be a state income tax. They would rather the public school finance reform fail miserably than enact a state income tax - they would lose votes from most of the state

No SIT?

Nope.

Also no WC insurance reqs, so businesses are flocking there.

I drove through the whole state once and, damn that place is flat and boring. Any place there with any geographic visual interest.

California has beautiful hills and weather. Can't say much about other things tho.

So let's look at CT:

6% state income tax
6% sales tax
Pretty high property tax, including on cars. Yes, I pay around $600 a year on my car!
No alcohol sales after 8pm and on sundays

no state tax, but you'll be surrounded by Texans.

you decide which is worse :p personally, I don't mind paying taxes just to ensure that there's almost an entire continent between myself and Texas ;)

You heard right. My dad pays more in one month for his house than his g/f does in one YEAR in Delaware! DE is the place to be!
