the service has been down here in Sarasota for over 8 hours now.... this is the 3rd time in slightly over a month its been down for 2+ hours or more...

I called and was told that they are reporting a major service interruption here, and major issues throughout most of FL....

Combined with the billing issues, CS issues, lines getting crossed multiple times (i have a thread about it here from a few months ago), i am DONE....

Now, having been around to a few companies, i know they ALL suck, but which is the most reliable now? Verizon?

The only company I've ever used is Nextel. I've never had a problem with them. YMMV.

Well, where I am at Cingular is pretty good. I have also had Sprint, Tmobile (when it was Voicestream), and Verizon (when it was GTE). Cingular and Verizon were the best as far as calls. Sprint was WORST for customer service, that was a nightmare, and the dropped calls were about average (coverage was fairly poor). Tmobile was good all around and I had no complaints.

In chronological order (because providers may have upgraded by now):

AT&T/Cingular
Verizon
Sprint
Tmobile (Voicestream)

Verizon is pretty good where I am, I went to them from Cingular. Only thing I don't like is the lack of freedom in phones you have with GSM.

verizon would have no competition if they would use GSM phones.

If only they'd quit crippling their phones...

No problems with any of my phones.

I'm referring to features that identical phones have on other networks, but Verizon disables to force you to pay for things through Get It Now. For example, my GF has some Samsung phone that allows you to record something and set it as a ringer. Unless you have the Verizon version.

I don't know what the big deal is about GSM phones but I've never had any problems with CDMA. In fact my Verizon phone picks up inside buildings where most (GSM) carriers don't.

My grandparents had Cingular and would always get cut off when walking around their house. They now have Verizon and have never had a call dropped.

I agree with this 100%. I was on AT&T/Cingular and migrated over to Sprint. And its nearly impossible to buy a new phone and have it activated on the network. Yuo have to buy it from sprint and pay 100% of the asking price, AND it restarts the "new every 2" counter. It used to be so nice having 1 phone with work and 1 phone for outside work.
