After much forum searching, and listening to (reading) the lamentations of many about the woes of WIN 8, This evening I bit the bullet and put the WIN8 Pro 64 DVD in my drive. About 15 to 20 minutes later I was a windows 8 user and back to my desktop with the photo of a red, white and blue MIG 29 demo /show craft.. When windows folks send me the e-mail with the license for the windows media player (for free) I will be hard pressed to know I've upgraded to a new and contentious operating system. I went from WIN 7 Home premium directly into win 8 pro and nothing noteworthy happened.

Am I to believe that the folks with all the problems haven't assured themselves that the computer was properly set up to accept a new operating system ? Or what could be the problem? You put the DVD in click on run setup and away you go. I did run the win8 upgrade assistant program a few times and made sure that whatever it was unhappy with I corrected. Absolutely no problem whatsoever. It just loaded and setup.

I have done an upgrade of every OS since XP and have never had an issue. Never had BSODs, never had installation errors/hangups, nothing. Every time the installations went smooth.

Maybe I'm just lucky.

Ran the upgrade from Win 7 Pro to Win 8 Pro without issue. Everything has gone flawlessly.

You guys are speaking heresy, you know. You're supposed to hate it, have constant crashes, and not be able to get to anything because you're too dense to figure out the interface. Sheesh, get with the program.

I think some want to bash it because they are trying convince themselves they don't need it. They are correct. They don't need it. I didn't need it. I wanted it and I am happy with it. Working great!

Most people that bash Windows 8 just go along with the winds and bash any new and different without giving it a chance.

Windows 8 >>>>>> Windows 7 ... it's a fact. Haters get over it. Metro is not the whole OS (personally I don't think it's bad)

Metro is not the whole OS

Amen to that, but we are preaching to the choir here. An open mind and willingness to invest some time learning are all that is required to really get what's going on in the OS. And yes, this is not the last version of Windows ;)

I had terrible experiences with upgrading XP to Vista. Horrible garbage install, even after trying multiple times. Thankfully it was painless because I was able to reinstall a ghost image and go back to XP or try again. I also had some bad experiences with upgrading Vista to Windows 7.
