Seems like we're seeing a huge reversal in the car market. Cars are getting foreign parts (Focus, Camero, Aura, etc. etc.) Whereas the trucks are moving more american (as you mentioned the Raider, the Izuzu, and the Mazda B and now the Titan, the flagship truck of Nissan).

Personally, I look forward to more melding of countries' technologies. The Dodge Sprinter was definitely a step in the right direction and I'd like to see something similar introduced in Ford and Chevy's lineup.

Trucks were always the highlight of Detroit's products for at least the past 25 years.

Indeed, I look forward to comparing the 2009 F-150 (and especially 2010 when they start doing ecoboost and diesel) along with the 2009 Dodge Ram.

Indepedent suspension = win.

But I'm incredibly partial to the looks of the F-150 Platinum. That is just one fiiine lookin' truck.

It's not independent. It's still a solid axle, just with coil springs and link arms instead of leaves.

seems like they would partner with a better manufacture than dodge for their trucks.

I thought that this news already broke. They already have trucks out of mock up, from what I have heard.

independent suspension generally = fail when heavily loaded.

yeah it did a while back.

chrysler doesn't have the extensive overseas portfolio of small cars that gm and ford do, so they're getting small car expertise and nissan is geting truck expertise and economies of scale.

If they aren't selling the Titan what makes them think people will want to buy a Dodge with a Nissan badge on it?

Yep, and Dodge is to be commended for finally ditching the outdated leaf spring. The only thing keeping them around is tradition.

Nah, they're strong, simple and cheap. There's really not much on them that can go wrong. The biggest drawback is ride quality. For a true work truck I really don't see why you would be so worried about ride quality though.

They aren't simple. A leaf spring is a very complex beast, and not any stronger than a set of links and coils. It's also more expensive. What's more, leafs sag much much more than coils, and once you invert a leaf it's done. Every older 4Runner you see has a sagging rear because that's where the leafs are.

Both have positives and negatives. I wouldn't consider either better than the other. I prefer both to torsion beam setups.

nearly every reciprocating piston engine has had hemispherical combustion chambers for over 40 years. we have dodge to thank for that, and only they can call it a "Hemi." but yeah, that add campaign was aggravating.

Isn't that the point of this though? They weren't selling enough of their own truck to justify having to maintain a production plant to produce their own truck, so they make a deal with another company and pay them a fraction of the cost of running their own plant to slap some custom body panels and interior on a truck they are already producing.

The plant makes other Nissan trucks/SUV's as well. I think Jules' point is that it looks bad on Nissan's part to use a Dodge Ram...why not just buy the Dodge Ram? People buy a Nissan b/c it's a Nissan, not because it's a Dodge.

Hmmm. Wonder if this raise, lower, or not effect the resale prices of used Titans.

I've seen a couple 4x4 SE/LE king cabs with sub 50k miles on them for around $13k-$14k. If they dive down to around $10k I'd be tempted. There are some things I really like about the Titan's over other full size trucks. The built in utility tracks in the bed are great.

Thats not all that made it a Hemi....Hemi's died in irrc '58 or so. Even the "Hemi's" of the 60's aren't true Hemi's.

independent suspension = fail

Worse design for a trruck ever.

Could they go any lower than they already are? I heard an ad last weekend for brand new Nissan Xterras selling for $14k. Nissan has a plethora of bloated vehicles that get horrible mileage...they've got to be hurting.

I would hope that there are no ICEs today with hemispherical combustion chambers.

True story.

Redneck pulls up to me in his Cobalt, revving all to hell. I look over, he smiles and asks me, "Hey Man, you got a turbo in that thing?"

I say, nope, I got a Hemi.

and....

he gave me the

I was driving my WRX.
