Of course, my wonderful, free anti-virus program, InoculateIT-PE, from Computer Associates trapped it, so no damage here, but if it hit me, it may be looking for your machine, too. It's one of those VBS (Visual Basic Scripthosting) viruses that looks in your address book and sends itself to all your friends. It also looks in your Inbox and ships itself to everyone who sends you anything. That is why I thought I should re-post this idea that I posted last time it came around AT. If you didn't pay attention, then, do so, now.

To prevent ALL VBS based viruses, including those that haven't been written yet, simply uninstall Windows Scripting Host. That is Windoze name for VBS. 95% of all Windoze users will never use it. If you ever do need it (some time in the next century), just insert your disk, and re-install it. Here's a link to how to do it for Win 95, 98, 2K and NT, including step by step screen shots.

Stay safe. Stay clean. :)

Thanks Harvey, three people at my work got that virus this week. Luckily none of them opened it or they would have had to explain to the boss how some attachment named "sexy virgin.scr" brought down their PC.

Here's a fixed LINK

SmiZ -- Thanks for fixing my link. I fixed mine, as well because I actually meant to make it the more generic link that takes you to the selector for how to do it for Win 95, 98, 2K and NT.

The above is the same as my corrected link at the start of this thread.

I actually use VBS on a regular basis. Damn script kiddies need a different language. I just don't click on anything I'm not 110% sure of. Easiest way to avoid a virus.

hmm i think i saw that, but got it on a non vb enabled machine, i have 2 machines that check the same acct, using outlook, one has no vb enabled, and i think what I'll do is use that machine to screen stuff.

Guess that makes you one of the five percent. At least it may give you some insight as to how Mac users must feel. :p ;)

You can still download the email with the virus. Disabling Windoze Scripting Host just disconnects the mechanism that allows the virus to do its damage.

P.S. The personal pronoun, I is always capitalized. ;)
