Inspired by bsobel's thread.
Sadly, I've come across that 'extraordinary' employee too few times but the times that I did were amazing. One of my experiences...
In November 2002, I bought a Tony Stewart Winston Cup champion t-shirt in an eBay auction using the BIN. The seller was selling 50 shirts of that size and most of that size were sold out by the time I got mine. This seller was doing the same with the other sizes BTW and they were going quickly all the way around because this was Tony Stewart's first champsionship.
Anyway, I paid immediately and received an email an hour or so later saying that the shirt would be shipped out the next day. All seemed good. A week goes by and no shirt. I get the seller's contact info and call him. A guy answers and says he doesn't know what I'm talking about and hangs up on me. I'm pissed!
So I immediately contact eBay and make a claim. Then I contact his local police department (Murfreesboro, TN) and tell them everything that's going on. Imagine getting a call from Houston, TX from some chick about a $30 t-shirt bought off of eBay! The first officer I spoke with had no idea about eBay but said there was another officer around that knew about 'things like that'. So he gets on the phone and I tell him the story again and makes sure he understands how many people this guy is scamming. He takes down my contact info and says he'll give the guy a call.
A couple of hours later, the police officer calls me at work and says the guy sounded suspicious and said he would swing by the seller's residence after he got off his shift. The next morning, the officer calls me and says that the seller's roommate took over his account while he was out of town (yeah right) but that he (the seller) would definitely be refunding my money (it was only about $30 total after S/H). Sure enough, a couple of hours later the money was back in my PP account.
I never really honestly expected it to turn out like it did. I figured I was scammed and was glad it just wasn't for that much money. The fact that THAT police officer took it upon himself to help me on his 'off' time meant a lot to me.
That afternoon, I typed up a letter and mailed it to his Captain commending the officer for his work on my behalf over such a trivial matter. I never expected the guy to go over to his house over such a small thing. I really just wanted my complaint to be filed because I figured at least a couple other buyers would be doing the same thing.
So do you have a story about an outstanding employee somewhere that helped you out past what they really 'needed' to do?
No cliffs. Read.
