That moment you realized you should take a break from your game

In the spirit of similar posts I thought this might be a good topic so here's one moment of mine.

I was playing Morrowind and had been searching every single building in every single town for this one specific book related to a quest. I don't remember the book or the quest as it has been years, but I spent an ungodly amount of time looking for this item.

One day on my way to work I looked across the street and noticed a used book store. I immediately got all excited about coming across a shop I somehow hadn't checked yet and the possibility of the book being in there. Now of course this is all happening in my head within the span of maybe 1-2 seconds, but I immediately felt everyone around me knew exactly what I was thinking and had to be laughing. I realized I needed a break from Morrowind after that.

I realized I needed a break from competition in fps games when I punched my monitor and shattered the glass in the LCD.

Krayt hunting in SWG (before the CU/NGE days), and having dreams about it while sleeping and visiting my brother-in-law for dinner and looking at his dragon bearded lizard and calling it a "krayt".

I facepalmed at myself.

I play Pudge in Dota too much.
That's why I hide in the bushes next to a school observing the children and waiting for an opportunity.
I'm sure it's because I play Pudge too much.

I started checking corners when entering rooms and rooflines for snipers when playing a lot of BF2.

Loved me some krayt hunting or night sister elder soloing. I spent like 18 hours a day playing that game. No regrets though.

When I play a lot of GTA, I'll see nice cars on the street and think "that's way better than what I'm driving, better take it." Then I realize that not only is that frowned upon in the real world, but I'd have as good a chance at building a working particle accelerator from rubber bands and drinking straws as hotwiring a brand new Aston Martin.

Whenever I play games that involve a lot of fetching of random things, I start looking for those items in the real world, or worse, attempting to use those items in the real world. At one point, after playing a lot of Ratchet and Clank, I went to the store with my then-girlfriend and told her we should get a new HDTV because it was only 800 bolts. We didn't end up with the TV, and she made me start spending more time outside.

My memories of SWG are some of my fondest gaming moments ever..
Spending hours crawling up to baby Rancors to sample DNA. Not to toot my own horn but I was one of the best Bio Engineers around straining DNA to give lesser level creatures too much potency. :D
When I started to dream about DNA sampling I knew I played too much. :)

I dreamed of that game all the time. I'd stay up after server reset (7am) to sell close to top level buffs for 5-10 times what other docs sold theirs as. Lots of people bitched but my sales were steady and wealthy adventurers knew that the extra 200 stat points plus no line was well worth the cost. Then I'd sleep 2-3 hours and go to work Lol.

Best game ever.

Heh, when SWG came out my wife and I played for a couple days straight. When we finally left the house to make a run to the grocery store, I could have sworn I saw a beam of light coming down from the sky, leading us to the waypoint...

It's a shame they destroyed that game. At one point, Donah of Bria server (me :p) was known across the galaxy for having the absolute highest quality crafting stations and weapons. I was a major contributor on that server to the big resource site (SWGresources.com?) and I was out there scanning for new resources every day, making sure I immediately pulled my harvesters after a resource shifted, grabbing the primo spots, and getting mega stacks of the best metals. :)

When "1 more hour of play" at midnight when playing Xcom turns into "Why is the sun going up this early?"

That was Enemy Unknown too. They need to make an XCom game that goes back to the roots of the game. As a little kid, I didn't even think that game was beatable.

I still do this. The second I walk out the door I look right/left instantly. You can never be too careful lol.

When you start daydreaming about your entire first eleven, second and reserves for your football(Soccer) team.

Anyone who has ever played the Football Manager series has done this and more including thinking about contracts, budgets, matchups, who to rest etc.

That game will consume your life if you have any passion for the sport and games. Seriously.

That moment when you call someone a noob and they are like "wtf does that mean?" Well, this was long before it became common knowledge; thanks UO!

I suppose when watching Reign of Fire and thinking "why don't they just get a bard to provoke them?" was probably another sign I should take a break.

Can't say I ever did though.

I played through Beta (I might have played a little of alpha can't recall) and I remember playing through the first weekend when a friend of mine ran his crafting stations the entire weekend just to get the first (crappy) rifles and pistols off. I used to shift my harvesters all the time as the resource quantity changed and location changed.

I remember camping the Ackley (forget the spelling) just to get Ackley Bones for stun baton. I remember getting stuck on Endor in the first week of the game. I sold all I had to go to Endor. I then sold my return ticket for an Ape like short creature that had been tamed. Super strong little guy.
I remember trying to tame the spiders on that planet.. man the Mothers didn't like it.
I remember the Merricks... ( I think correct name) they were my favourite pet at the time. Man creature handling period was amazing. Sigh.. Before they ruined it.. that game was in a class of its own. My toons name was Banshari Degaulle... I think I was on Corbantis server. :)

Then later I became the number one BIO engineer in server. I would charge between 150k and 250k for pets but abusing the DNA system, straining DNA 4-7 times until I had the level down whilst still keeping strong stats and extra abilities. I was a twilek. Good times...

In the wee hours of the night after a 12 hour Zelda session, I actually went blind. Eyes just blanked out on me. I turned everything off and laid back in the couch for a bit. When my vision slowly came back I groped my way to bed and slept for a LONG time.

That was a freaky experience.

Yea, I noticed myself looking at some ladders leading to the rooftops of the building I work in and the first thing that hit me was "I wonder if there is a red chest on that roof".

Too much Borderlands 2.

When I can't unclaw my hands. When my vision is so distorted I'm afraid to drive. When all my joints pop and crackle on my way to the bathroom and my bladder feels like it's gonna bust. While I'm in there taking the most awesome piss ever I close my eyes, see the game, and can't wait to get back on it so actually consider not washing my hands.

These are just a few of my warning signs.
