Long story short, we were too lazy to cook dinner on Sunday and went out to the local Denny's for a meal. Service was decent, food was decent, nothing to complain about. Our server was pretty nice, didn't need to ask for any refills for our drinks and the bill came to a total of 16.71. I pulled out my wallet and only saw 3 dollar bills in there. Seems standard for a tip, a little over 15%.

The only thing was that at this one you pay at the register at the entrance. So, I put the 3 bucks on the table and go up and pay with a credit card. Because of that, when it comes back, i sign 0.00 for the tip and a total of 16.71.

So, I guess the highschool reject thought he was doing the server a favor and sticking it to a cheapskate customer when he didn't know the whole story. On the phone with my credit card company right now to dispute the charges. Little bastard.

EDIT: Thanks to the levelheadedness of mugs and corporate thug, I will wait a few days before my head explodes.

EDIT2: Yes, I am a dumbass. I came into work today and was cleaning off my desk when I noticed a receipt. Yes, another Denny's receipt, but this one for $18. WTF was my thought. I pull out the other one and it dawns on me, I had gone to Denny's TWICE that day. Once at lunch and then another time that night. The one in question was merely delayed in being posted to my account (its on there now).

Ok, so make with the insults.

How'd I guess this was going to be a restaurant...

It's an authorization, not a charge. Wait a couple of days.

Wait till he sees how much his gas station "overcharged" him. He'll be thrown into a fit or rage and go put a crowbar up someones head!

I usually play on the thinking-man servers. No profanity or pr0n sprays (the horror, I know), but it keeps the kiddies away and thats what I like about it.

I've never experienced the gas thing though. Well, the available credit would go down, but it wouldn't be an actual listing on my recent transactions yet. Those, once they've shown up have always been correct.

Chinese restarants do this sometimes. You don't tip, the waiter will either follow you out to the parking lot and ask you for the tip, or they will just charge your credit card 15%.

Man, this thread comes up once a month, it was the entire inspiration for this site: http://www.at-wiki.com/wiki/index.php/FAQs

Just didn't want you to waste your time on the phone. :)

That's normal. Its not what you will be charged, just the most that bill is authorized to be.

I've had that happen many times. You don't need to do anything about it.
