My brother and I were discussin it. I don't think the Magnum could even take on the Lotus. My brother on the other hand thinks that it could. Which car is faster?

Not sure. They were just on the road and the Magnum overtook the Lotus and then the d00d in the Lotus asks what the Magnum's got. The Magnum guy says a guitar, an amp, and some other stuff and the Lotus guy just looks confused.

Well, the Hemi option in the "RT" model puts out 340HP, but it's heavy @ 4120lbs.

The Elise is a sub 5s 0-60mph car, and can hang with Ferraris on the track. The Exige is even quicker.

The commercial's full of sh!t.

I never thought otherwise. I was just posting some info about the Magnum. :)

That's what I was thinking. It could have lotsa horsies and torque, but the weight might drag it down a bit.

There is no way a Magnum could handle a Lotus on a twisty road like that...HP not even factoring in. Which do you think would handle corners better...a Lotus, or a giant 4000lb SUV/Station Wagon something or rather? ;)

it's just a commercial.
a Tundra can't really fall off a cliff and not suffer a scratch.

The Elise spanked the Cobra R. Next we'll be seeing a commercial about the Magnum spanking teh Cobra R too...

Did they have a disclaimer at the bottom of the screen or anything?

I believe they had an Esprit in the commercial.

I'm not sure, but the older models of the Esprit might be slower than the Magnum in a straight line.

The commercial does not show an Elise. It shows an Esprit V8 Twin Turbo (350hp, 295lb/ft torque, 2965lbs curb weight). It does 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, and quarter miles in the high 12's.

The only way the Magnum would pass the lotus is if the lotus left it in 6th gear.

You're right, your brother is not even close.

One thing to realize is that the Lotus Esprit had been around for more than 20 years. So it might be an earlier one...And the Magnum beat that. AFAIK that look hasn't really changed...

edit: I found a page of acceleration times for stock cars. The 1984 Lotus Esprit has the 0-60 time as 6.6 seconds. I know the 300C can do about 5.3 according to Car and Driver so the Magnum must be around that. Here's the link to the acceleration page.

No, it's definitely a 2002+ model. The look has definitely changed over the years, only the general shape has remained.
