That cellphone I bought . . .

Fedex dropped it off on 12/31. Upon opening the package, I found several pamplets, and quickstart guide, a CD, a quickstart card, an envelope labelled 'Stop and Read', and the phone itself. I opened the envelope first, browsed through the mainly licensing agreement information, how they bill, etc. I saw nothing related to activation in the envelope, nor the pamplets, nor the quickstart guides, no the manual for the phone. I figured they may have mailed it seperately, as a security measure. So I walked to my mailbox, nada. Meh, I remembered seeing an option for online activation on Verizon's website.

I went to Verizon's website and clicked on the activate phone link. They asked for my mobile phone number, which was printed on the customer receipt, and my billing ZIP code, also on the receipt. Upon clicking Submit, it asked me to verify the information. I verified the information, both were correct, and clicked submit again. This time it told me the zip code was invalid and to please check the customer receipt. I checked the receipt again, just to be sure they'd gotten it right there, and they had. So, I called their customer service number. To be fair, I spent no time on hold. The first rep I spoke to asked why I had not read the Stop and Read envelope when I said I was having trouble activating my phone. I told her that there was nothing related to activation in that envelope, she commented that that was odd and gave me the 800 number used for activations and told me what I would need from the receipt. I mentioned that the website was saying my zip code was invalid, and I was told to try the 800 number and call back if there were still problems. The rep then transferred me to the automatted 800 activation number. After I entered my billing zip code, it told me my entry was invalid and to please try again. I called their customer service a second time, spoke with a different rep, and was told that I had to wait 48 hours from the order date on the customer receipt for the information to be fully processed in their system. The order date on the receipt was 12/30. Today is 01/01. Both the website and automated line still say my zip code is invalid.
I called back their customer service line three times this morning, and I don't even get a message stating their business hours. I just get DC'ed back to a dial tone. :disgust:

And to make matters more interesting, when I check my online banking statement, I see TWO charges from Verizon Wireless in pending for the same amount. Since this is my first experience with getting a cellphone, I am a little ticked off.

Cliff Notes: Ordered Cellphone from Verizon over the internet. Verizon botched something, charged me twice, and I can't get a hold of them until monday.

Verizon sucks. Call them back and complain about the billing issue, and maybe mention (off handedly, like it doesn't really matter) that you don't have service yet. Make them give you a free month.

Not until Monday, apparently.

Problem #1 - Choosing Verizon Wireless
Problem #2 - Attempting to do anything on the holidays - I've never gotten *anything* to work right with Verizon on the holidays

Well, I finally got through to them, got the billing issue straightened out. And I learned that the phone isn't set to be activated until monday. Interesting way of doing things. If I still get this thing working on monday, I'll have to call them back.

Incidentally, it seems like everyone hates every cell provider. Sprint, Nextel, Verizon, Alltell, T-Mobile, etc. They take a lot of flak.
