It's been like 3 days and his family is still holed up in their house in Santa Clara instead of going to Hawaii to be with him in the hospital.

The media says no one would come out of the house or answer phone calls. No one from his family has made a statement yet.

You should pay for the family's round trip tickets, their hotel room, and their food expenses while they're in Hawaii.

Scum.

So, the whole family should go to Hawaii and not return?

I think, but am not sure, he was saying the kid could have taken a summer job and saved up a few hundred dollars to buy the ticket in preparation of having a fight with his dad bad enough that he was willing to risk his life to go see his real mom he hasn't seen since he was a toddler.

I'm grateful to the kid. (And I'm glad that he is alive...)

Its one thing to think that Homeland Security is a waste of money, its another thing for an alienated adolescent to prove it...

It would cost a hell of a lot more to catch every single little or big thing that can or will cause problems.

The TSA is not designed nor budgeted to literally monitor and catch every action they'd like to catch. We should be grateful they don't try, though they do go too far. Israel's TSA equivalent is a billion times smarter with less budget, all on the idea that they should focus less on the things that are statistically unimportant, so they can watch people far more carefully.

I'm not arguing for the TSA or their current budget, mind you - the whole agency needs a total shakedown and a makeover. That said, based on their methods of operation, they'd basically need to double their budget. Which is why they should go in the opposite direction and focus on a very different approach to the process.
