Your bank thinks you're committing fraud.

Yesterday, I bought McDonalds in South Salem, filled up my tank at the same time... Almost bought a couple new pair of Nike's (no lie, my current ones are kinda broken). And then, yeah... Three newegg purchases totaling over $600 and then as the lady said, "A purchase from DX and ..." (DealeXtreme)

Anyway, glad they called me and took the fraud alert off. About to buy a 7970 for $268 AR. (R9/R7 announcements are disappointing. Sounds like it'll be shit.)

Yes the bank monitors your typical spending habits and if it's outside the norm puts your $$$ on hold until it is cleared by you and verified. Either by a call from them or you going to the bank.

Yeah, my typical spending is very conservative. So, it's a good thing that they look. I'm glad they do, but I still can't purchase this fucking video card. It's still being declined. Whatever... :'(

The Newegg purchases will always do it the first time with a new card. Annoying as hell, but apparently all the credit card/identity thieves like to buy hardware. Not surprising, really, but damn them for making things annoying for the rest of us (apart from that whole stealing thing).

The bank/card issuer usually will fix things so it doesn't happen again, but you have to call the number on the back of the card.

Wow that's quite a spending spree. Did you come into some money, or did you just get your first credit card?

No, I've just had money.

Unfortunately, my bank account balance is reflecting that I bought a 32gb iPhone 5S with the extended applecare. :( So, I keep thinking it's higher than it really is... And rent is going to be taken out soon. Sigh. Whatever. It'll all come back with a few paychecks.

Just gotta keep saving $500/month for vacation in the future (Meh, about 2 weeks of pay at the current rate. Hopefully I get to keep my job for the rest of the academic year and not just this Fall term.).

Anyway, I still can't buy the fucking videocard because my debit card keeps getting declined. Funny, it worked just fine at the store when I went there an hour ago.

EDIT: Fuck this shit. I STILL can't buy it. I WENT TO THE STORE AND USED IT BUT I CAN'T USE IT ON NEWEGG. #hashtagRAGE!

So you have a new iPhone, and you have a tollfree number on the back of the card, maybe call it and talk to them?

Phone comes in October, bro. Similarly, the number on the back is only for business hours. I've called.

Find a bigger bank?

I think the real solution is to spend more money more regularly, so they won't hold you up on a $300 mickey mouse purchase.

The assholes have called me from a toll free number that doesn't show the bank name on the caller ID. So I hang up on them just like I do the other 1200 toll free calls I get a month....and they freeze my card. Bastards. I appreciate their monitoring but it's not rocket science to realize that most people don't answer toll free calls.

And why weren't they monitoring when I got hacked for $4100 in August?

All the time. Esp when something like Wii U Zelda limited edition comes out, at the same time as Pokemon edition 3DS XLs and a few game preorders ship, at the same time some bulk ammo or magazines come in stock somewhere, then throw in a deal on a Aimpoint or Eotech. Bank freaks out when that happens all on the same morning. :awe:

I had my fraud alert bumped up to $50,000 so I wasn't bothered by piddly purchases.

That awkward moment when...

You're reading a Trident thread and it suddenly becomes a profanity laced, pathetic rant about absolutely nothing of importance.

Wait, that's not awkward, it is the basis of every Trident thread.

This has happened to me many times. Especially after buying expensive computer parts.

It has been highly annoying both times it happened, as the call was immediate while I was still at the counter.

The sales rep is looking at me like some sort of criminal while I accept all the charges. I wish there was some hour long delay or so, so it doesn't embarrass me. The last time it happened was when I was buying suits from JoS A Bank.

Seems like Newegg always trips their stupid meters ...

I've also had them cause trouble when Traveling too.. that's always the most fun when the car is on like 1/8 of a tank and the card doesn't work at the gas station.

I've had it happen two or three times now.
I always carry 2 credit cards as well as a debit card so I always have alternate payment form unless I'm at costco or something where they don't take credit cards.

First world problem.

On a related note as other's have mentioned Newegg itself is very picky about approving CC's and they are also sticklers about only shipping to your billing address. Have you checked to see if you can get a similar deal on Amazon? I buy more and more electronics from them now (w/ Prime)

I was very surprised the other day because I tried to ship an order to something that wasn't my billing address and Newegg actually let it through.
