You get tired of waiting for your neighbor to come down and remove her clothes from the washer/dryer in your apartment complex, so you begin removing her clothes yourself. Five seconds after you begin this, she (finally) walks in to find you handling her clothing.

Public laundry rooms or -mats are the worst.

When I was in college, our apartment complex had a number of large laundry rooms (20+ of each machine). Somehow, people still managed to fill up every machine for hours.

One time I went in and all the washers were full and many of them were done. I waited 5 minutes (I timed it on my watch), then emptied three washers that I needed. A few minutes later a couple walks in and become visibly upset. They gather their three loads that I took out and emptied SEVEN other washers while I was there.

I finished loading my wash and walked out. A few minutes later I see them walk out to their car, load all of their wet clothes and drive in the general direction of another laundry room.

My Spidie Sense tingled, so I walked back in and, sure enough, they had opened the lids to my washers.

A-holes.

This is why I like having a house, and my own laundry room. :D

Though I suppose the nice thing with laundromats is you can probably use up multiple machines at once and get all your loads done faster. Though I'm guessing that's probably frowned upon.

I do not miss the days of a communal laundromat.

This happened back when I was living in an apartment. My clothes had finished washing and I was waiting for a dryer to open up. Both were in use, one had already stopped. After waiting about 15 minutes, I removed somebody's clothes from the dryer. Folded them and put them in nice stacks on a clean table. Came back about 15 minutes before my load was finished. Found my wet clothes thrown all over the parking lot. Last time I washed my clothes without staying there the entire time.

Thankfully, the machines at my place lock until finished. So, if someone is able to move my clothes, I must not have been back in time to get them. :)

I never really thought about communial washer/dryers even though I see them all the time in shows like the big bang theory (i'm in the UK and i'm pretty sure this doesn't occur here)

So whats the deal, why can't you have your own in your appartment?

Nope. No room. Plus, hooking them up in hundreds of apartments is waaay more expensive than having a few in a communal room.

Can't wait until I have a washer/dryer in my own place. Last week someone left wash done inside 3 machines for over an hour and a half. Just sat there. People are awful about laundry.

This never happens to me(because i remove them after 15 min and carry on with my own laundry)

I honesly do not understand how you can be that inconsiderate, i've lived my whole life since i moved out(roughly 12 years) in various apartment buildings with communal laundry rooms, i have never once been more than 1 min late to remove from machine, usually i arrive with machine still going because i set my alarm to go off with 3 min left. Everyone has a cell phone, all cell phones have alarms on them, how hard is it to set one and then get your laundry when it goes off, its not rocket science.

I never had an issue with getting to my load when it was done within a reasonable time but my old roommate would ALWAYS leave his shit in the public machines and someone would end up toss them all on top of a table they had in there for folding tables.

We ended up getting for free some beat and old washer and dryer though so it was short lived and the only time I ever didn't have my own in home washer and dryer.

This is why you get up at 5AM on a weekend to do your laundry, like me! Guarantee there's nobody else in the laundry room.
