Does traffic tend to be worse Weds evening or Thursday morning in general? NJ to NY specifically.

i'm going from mid 100's on the gsp to just across the border at the end of the gsp. we'll probably head out around 1 or 2 pm and i don't expect there to be much traffic. the worst traffic always seems to be on sunday evening and always eastbound on the tz bridge.

I'm driving my kid & his girlfriend back to her place in Queens in a couple hours. Expecting it to suck majorly. Fortunately the rain has let up - rain screws up everything. I'm taking the GWB to the Cross Bronx to one of the bridges. Normally the most insane traffic mess ever, but I'm betting that lots of people will avoid that. I could be wrong, in which case I'll be sitting in traffic for eternity. Won't be the first time.

Normally this Wed PM vs Thur AM is a tossup. Thursday AM you're stuck with the parade mess. But Wed PM you end up with all the people who are avoiding Thur AM. Take your pick.

Oh, and be aware that the parade floats come through the Lincoln Tunnel at some random hour on Wed night.

Today starting at 4:30PM - it's going to be a nightmare.

Usually on the Holidays themselves, traffic is OK, but Thanksgiving and Christmas are exceptions, and it will be higher than normal, but not as bad as the day before.

There's some major construction on the Cross Bronx right after the GWB. I would check the traffic reports before committing to the GWB.

They need a bridge south of Manhattan from NJ to Queens so you can skip that whole mess. Probably will never happen since the bridge would need to be about 2 miles long.

When is there ever NOT major construction on the Cross Bronx :D ?

I'm back! Yes, there was traffic and slow-downs. As I expected.

Know what I hate most? Amateur drivers. When it's the regular rush-hour traffic, the ones that do it every day, it's okay. The ones that don't, it's a nightmare of folks who don't know how to merge, who get upset that nothing is moving, who miss their exits and who are staring at their blackberries to see if there's some way to get around the mess.

At least it wasn't New Years' Eve, which I consider the worst time ever to drive in the NYC metropolitan area.

Happy Driving to whoever is nuts enough to do it :) .

I try not to travel during the holidays. All the nut jobs are out, and bad things happen to good people.

You do know there's this little parade there tomorrow, right? Parade starts up there, clears out around then, but it can be a challenge. Have fun.

Best!

I don't expect any parade related problems, I'll be staying very close to the west side(one of the trump buildings)

I assume you mean far west - you might be okay. The parade is on the west side, starting position is 77th st and Central Park West. But never underestimate the effect of the enormous amount of people that participate in this thing.

No guarantees. Best!

Crossed the GWB around 8:30 PM. It was smooth sailing. It was a great time to travel.
