First I took the advice I found here and picked up a Canon MP780. Then I listened to Lemon Law and checked out the nifty stuff forums looking for ink. Ended up buying from hobbicolors at around the same price at bottled water.
So thanks to all of your good advice, my daughter is happy because she has a color scaner, my wife is happy because I printed out the two hundred odd pictures she had on my hard drive, and I'm happy because I got the fax and copyer I needed, and save a ton of money.
