dennifloss...you got aspect ratio scaling to work with an ATI card? Is it a laptop card? Because I didn't think ATI had any working aspect ratio scaling options, besides those on mobile chips.

Nice troll but it's not like your CRT was all that.

It was one of the cheapest 21"s only had a max res of 1600 x 1200 @ an eyestraind 76Hz

The ViewSonic P810 is a POS invar shadow mask. Weak color, grainy as you can see the grid and dark because of the grid - least dark compared to any LCD made or a AG CRT - I'd take a TN over that POS.

Now if you had a Sony G520 or NEC 2070 it would be a different story.

I knew it worked at one time with ATI. (Walked though to 20 people in some thread how to do mapping and they thought I was crazy but w/o a ATI card/drivers in front of me I was at a disadvantage only recalling from memory, obviously, it appears of an old feature they couldnt find) Why ATI take scaling/mapping away is a total mystery to me.

Yeah, we need denser pixels. I'm tired of being able to see the pixel grid.

EVE-Online in fullscreen (not windowed) mode on the Dell 30" in 2650x1600 rocks.

Interesting. So do I need the CCC and older drivers? I really don't like the CCC. I assume the new ones don't even have the option anymore from what I've been reading.

widescreengamingforums, nuff said.

Besides, all "Games for Windows" branded games will have widescreen support as dictated by Microsoft.

Widescreen is the way to go.

I only had a widescreen for a week (Gateway FPD2485W), and I am sorely missing that size/resolution/aspect. I had to return it because no matter what bright/cont/R/G/B settings I tried, I could NOT get the colors right or the gradation to go away. I'm currently holding out for the 24WMGX3. That looks like the LCD to beat this year. My backup is the NEC 2690WUXi.

EDIT: want to add that HL2 & Lost Coast in HDR were breathtaking (as long as I wasn't in a dark place, then color blending went swirling down the crapper). I can't even stand to look at my 21" CRT now; it looks dull as Britney Spears' head.

I got some bad news... 24" GX2 is gonna be S-PVA :(

Read and weep

Travbomb is an NEC employee BTW.

Looks like you might be joining the WUXi club. Pricey to join, but I like it. :)

The 24WMGX may still be alright. I don't think the panel tech was at fault with the Gateway I tried; it had to be the other guts. I didn't see any lag or backlight bleed on it, just the way it graded colors was horrible, especially towards the dark end of the gradient. I'll wait for the reviews on this, as everyone and their mother is going to want to review it.

Although, this is a great way for me to justify a $1600 monitor (WUXi) to the wife

No way. I game and I have that monitor and I am getting a widescreen ASAP. I'm tired of this piece of junk. Sure it's fast, but it's washed out and boring.

Alright for what? Did you do know PVA is slowest pixel response? Not gaming that's for sure.

Can't comment on how the angles will look with Opticlear coating on her but if other PVA's are any indication they basically give me a headache after a couple hours use due to color/contrast shifting.

Travbomb said it will cost too much to put S-IPS inside but I would easily pay $400 more over PVA option. Since this bad news I'm gonna get the Dell HS 30".

I didn't notice ghosting, lagging, or other panel issues with the Gateway FPD2485W I had (pretty sure that was an S-PVA); just the colors wouldn't work out for me (bad transitions in the sky, dark/soft shadows, etc.). I would definitely pay more for the S-IPS panel, too, though, just to 100% rule out these issues.

Hopefully BestBuy will have the 24WMGX as well (they carry the 20WMGX2) so I can return it easily if there's an issue. I had the amount of the GW refunded (with no restocking fee) in a day when I returned it. I could barely see the 'screen door' effect if I looked for it on the 24", so it might be an issue for me on the 26". If I could see the 26" in person, I'd try to find a place with it in stock now.
