I just talked to him, said it was an honest mistake and he meant to send it to another member.

I received a negative eval from someone I didn't deal with -- an email or PM (can't remember which) to heat23 solved the problem in short order.

Um, they can't help everyone. Depends on your situation and how much information you have about the guy and how much information you included in the email

Never had a problem with trading - xcept once on ebay - stupid ass decided not to pay me coz he thinks shipping is to high...

But looking at the way trollhunters are handling these trades - you gotta give them credit- they're doing all this for free...

how did you mamge tp get ripped off to start with? Were you as foolish in your trade as you seem to be with this post? You can't blame TH's for you're own stupidity and then say they are worthless when you take it up the pooper for that stupidity.

You are jumping to conclusions, Red Dawn. We do not know the specifics of the trade, like did the guy have heatware and still rip him off? Or did he pay first to a newbie?

Personally, I think the trollhunters are a good psychological deterrent, though I have never seen an example of where they actually caught and brought a troll to justice. They are not really trollhunters, more like "troll repellent". Just like bug spray, they don't always work.

Me jump to conclusions? Never!!!:D If it would have been you that said it I would have given you the benefit of the doubt but 9 out of 10 times people get ripped off it's because of there lack of caution and good judgement. In the last 5 years I've done over 1,000 trades (was trading long before Heatware) and I never have been ripped off!

Hehe. I have once. The trader had positive evals too. It was only for a used game, so I didn't worry about it. In fact, we have seen well established traders go bad in FS/T more than once. But back to the original point, troll hunters can't do a whole lot other than try to communicate with both parties. They have no authority, and most of the time when the real authorities are contacted (IE: police), they usually say they don't have time to worry about internet trading. I think we are still "going after" joriz camagong, but to my knowledge he hasn't been caught yet :D

The greater point I am trying to make here is people often love to elevate a person or persons on a pedestal even when the role they serve is largely ceremonial or the person has obvious warts. Then someone comes along expecting the group, ie trollhunters, to actually have efficacy and is suprised to learn they don't. So maybe we need to look at them for what they are instead of pumping them up to be something they are not.

shady06 never talked with us. He had a mod on another forum confused as being one of us. Perhaps he'll come back and apologize for his mistake.

They are not really trollhunters, more like "troll repellent". Just like bug spray, they don't always work.

No, we are not always successful and no we are not gods. But there are many cases where we have achieved success in getting money/items back for people. Without our assistance, that would not have happened. But we never claimed to be an "end all" solution. We just try and help those who ask us.

"TrollHunters.com is a place where traders can get assistance regarding questionable or slow trades, bad trades and trading advice along with who to contact for help."

But you do not need to make us out to be nothing. I hope you'll never need our assistance. ;)

Commments like yours makes it more and more difficult to stay motivated to assist others.

I took several down including one that burned me, sent a sherriff to his house, ended up recieving my goods back and he ended up in court.

It is not up to us to press charges, it's up to the person who got burned, we chase the scum down and then advise traders on what to do.

Oh get over yourself Blade. I never said you were nothing. I said trollhunters are a good deterrent, but don't always work. This is statistically true. Go over to FS/T and ask all the people who have been burned if the trollhunters were able to solve all their problems. I think the answer is obvious. This does not mean I do not value your efforts. Of course I do, and appreciate them. In fact I have offered rewards to Roger before for his work. But that does not change the fact that despite your best efforts, if someone really wants to be a thief, you are going to be hard pressed to stop them. Hopefully thsi is getting better, but as I visit several forums it is far from being a really effective deterrent. I could say the same thing about law enforcement but that is another subject entirely :) BTW your threat is empty, if someone decides to troll me, I guarantee you I will pursue it to the fullest extent of the law. I am just that way :D

Roger-- that is a great example. I am glad you were able to do something concrete. Would you mind telling me a rough percentage of cases you persue that have a positive outcome? IE: Sherrif at the door. returned items or payment in full, etc... Thanks :)

My 2 cents....

While there may be folk at the FS/FT forum who we were not able to assist, there are many that we did. And not for small sums either. It would amaze prople to see how effective we "Troll Repellents" have been.

It can be discouraging when a volunteer effort is held under the microscope and dissed.

Blade's opinion is my opinion.
