Well I want to thank the members of the forum for all the great research I was able to do here in putting together my new system. With that in mind, I went against just about everyone's suggestion to go for socket 939. I decided that I wanted to keep the costs down as much as possible so I went with a 3400+ newcastle (754) and a dfi lanparty nforce3 mobo. I have never o'clocked, but it is something I may get into in the future, so that was my reasoning for the dfi mobo. My reasoning for the 754 was non-oclocked speed versus price. My decision was also influenced by my choice of an agp video card. (6600gt)Additionaly, I found a good deal on a 512 stick of pc2700 memory that some say will run at 3200 speeds. I guess we'll see on that one. I didn't want to spend more money on ram. A new 160gb hard drive was added and a new 17" lcd. The grand total was right at $800. I will let the new technology come out and try to stay a step or two behind when I do this again in a few years. I have a tendency to pick the wrong sockets as my current computer is a socket 423 1.7ghz that only runs pc133 ram. I think I can get at least three years out of this setup with a small upgrade here or there. Anyway....thanks again for this forum and wish me luck putting this all together.
