I took your advice and built a new system based on the Epox 8kta3 motherboard. I paired it with a 1.33 T-bird axia, 512Mb ram (crucial, cas 2) and did a clean install of Win2000Pro. I just want to say that this is by far the most problem free installation I've ever had over 12 years of computing. Everything is running flawlessly and stable. The cpu is running 1.81V core, averaging 38-44 degrees C, using a Cooler Master 6I11 (AMD recommended), with no modifications. It all sits in an sx830 Antec case with 4 fans + the power supply fan. It sure looks to me like case cooling is paramount. The system temperature reports the same temp as room temp. I've used all intel in the past, but I'm really liking what I see now. Thanks for the insight on the mainboard, I'm a happy fella for sure!

Epox has posted some new update drivers for the Via chipset (called 4 in 1 drivers) that supposedly takes care of some issues including SB Live issues. I have a Live installed and it is working wonderfully. I am impressed with Epox's online tech support, it looks like they do a good job of updating their bios/drivers. Overall, so far so good...
