I'm trying to flash the bios on Epox 8K5A2+

Question:

I need to create/format a floppy disk with "MS-DOS startup disk" right?

then unzip the .exe file downloaded from epox into the floppy.

Restart computer and boot from A drive.

type UPDATE on A:

reboot and done?

So there are 15 files on the floppy including the 5 files from epox correct?

You need two floppies. One is the boot disk, and the other is the bios disk. The bios for the board is fairly large, like 500kb or so, and the "Update" batch file also automatically saves your old bios. If you put everything on one floppy, you will not have enough room to save the old bios, and it will error out.

Hrmmm all I had to do with my 8K7A+ and 4G4A+ was d/l the BIOS, unzip it to a floppy and then reboot, and run the AWFLASH prog by hitting Alt+F2. Makes flashing a piece of cake. Automatically selects and updates the BIOS

You can do it that way still, I believe, but with the 8K5A2+, Epox reccomends the floppy method. Also, the bioses for these boards are much larger than the older boards, like the 8K7A and even recent boards like the 8KHA+. The bios is a full 512kb in size, whereas most of the older boards are 200kb and under. If you follows Epox's bios update instructions, it saves the old bios automatically so if you have problems you can use their restore feature, and two 512kb bioses will not fit on one floppy with startup files and awdflash, and it will error out.

Will the F2 method work? I don't see why not....:)

I guess I'm just old fashioned...;)
