Hey guys. Never ran into this before. Hoping someone could hopefully point me in a direction. I am leaning towards the mobo ( all I can think of, but I don't want to send it back 🙁 )

I bought a ECS Mainboard from the FS/FT forum, and have not been able to get it to boot. The board goes though the bios checks just fine, then after the bios, all I get is a blinking cursor. Every once and a while ( every 3-4 trys ) I get the onboard Realtech nic asking me if I want to network boot.

Checked all the Jumpers, all seem to be in their correct spots.

Tried booting to floppy, cd-rom, and hard drive. no go on all of them. I get a wonderful cursor. ( a blinking underscore)

I tried switching the CPU baised on the fact that the original CPU was a morgan core duron. I thought maybe the bios had to be updated. But still same thing with a 900 Athlon.

I tried a different PWS. I was using a 400 watt, but knowing some people had problems with some PWS's and ecs, I tried my 550 watt antec. Same thing.

I tried a different stick of memory that I pulled from a working system. Same thing, and the memory worked just fine when I put back in old system. Same with mmeory curfrently using. ( pc133 Crucial )

I tried disabling the onboard video, Thinking that maybe the video was malfunctioning. No go there either.

Cleared CMOS as well.

I tried switching the cpu fan to the other fan header, as sometimes a board will not boot without a fan on the correct header. no go.

CPU HSF is fully seated, and the bios is reporting normal temps.

All this testing is being done on my test bench, no case so gounding / shorting with a pin / case is not happening.

Anyone have any ideas as to what I could have missed? I am hoping I do not have to return the mobo, and only will as a last resort after trying everything else. The mainboard I got did not come with a manual, but I happened to have one for another K7SEM that I installed earlier in another system 🙂 Pays to not toss stuff!

Sorry to say Evadman, but it really does sound as if you have been very thourough with your troubleshooting. At this point I would return the board - youve got a very strong case...

Good luck

I would agree with Migroo. Anything I'd offer as a suggestion you've already done. Hope the return goes okay.

I had that problem with an Epox MB and when I hit the reset button it would boot but until I reset it would just sit there flashing. Like the others I can't think of anything else to try.

Alright. I hate to do it, but atleast it looks like I missed nothing major. Thanks guys!
