Here is a picture of my current setup

Current Setup

My routers current 4 ports act up so I have the Up Link port going to a port on my hub. The hub then feeds computers 1 & 2. The problem is computer 2 is downstairs (100ft of cat5) and I would like to add another computer downstairs. Is it possible to place a second hub in the basement? What configuration would I need to do inorder to make this work.

Hopeful Setup

Can someone tell me if this is possible or should I just shop for a new router? Thanks

I think as long as the other either hub has an uplink port or you use a crossover cable it will work, but I really know nothing.

Yes, that should work fine, assuming that hub #2 has an uplink port. If not, you'll need a crossover cable, and getting a 100' one will be a pain. Remember hub-or hub-switch requres either an uplink port or a crossover cable.

One suggestion - If your router has more than one Ethernet port, plug your second hub directly into it instead of the hub. Otherwise, go hub to hub.

heres my suggestion,

Router Port 1 -> Hub 1 uplink port
Router Port 2 -> Hub 2 uplink port

I think his routers ports are "acting up" thats why he doesnt want to use those ports.

Thanks for the info guys... I may end up buying a new router. Basically the 4 ports on mine are fubared. So I just use the uplink on it to feed the hub right now. I'm going to see if I can acquire some funding for a small wireless setup to complement the laptop I'm getting from work :D
