Windows 98/ME.. when using explorer and wandering around your folders, the windows folder comes up and warns you that "changing files is bad because it can adversely affect your system yadda yadda" and then you have to click "show files" before seeing the contents of the windows folder.

How is this "feature" disabled? I'm sick of clicking "show files" every time I'm browsing the windows folder. TIA!

Click on Tools / Folder Options / View. Make all the changes that you like then click on apply. Afterward, click on Like Current Folder... answer yes. Now every directories you goto will be the same.

from www.worldowindows.com:

SYMPTOM: By default, Windows 98 won't display the files in the Window or Windows\System folders - instead, it "hides" them, and states that you shouldn't mess with those files. You can still view them by clicking the "Show Files" link displayed on the warning page.

RESOLUTION: This isn't really a problem, but does annoy some power-users. To change Windows 98 to always show those files, do the following:

Go into the Windows folder, and rename the existing Folder.htt file to Folder.bak, and then copy the Folder.htt file located in the
Windows\Web folder to the Windows folder. Do the same for the Folder.htt file found in the Windows\System folder. Note that these files are hidden - you need to make sure you've set your view to allow you to view hidden files.
