My Seagate 400gb hard drive started showing S.M.A.R.T. errors.
Filled out the online form at Seagate got my RMA number and got a brand new drive from them in less than a week from the time they got my drive.
Thumbs up to Seagate.

Seagate is very fast with their RMAs.
They do not attempt to fix it. I think they send mass drives to ASIA for repair.

I downloaded their diagnostic software here, but it was showing signs of failing before that.

s-mart tools. s.m.a.r.t isn't operating system dependant, as the data is pulled directly from the drive.

hehe, nah, this just goes in my shuttle SFF box for recording TV. I don't partition this one.

What signs were those?

Crashing when saving large files. then I tried to format it and would would stall and fail and never complete the format. Thats when I ran the diagnostic utility and it failed the tests.

Their rebates are the fastest I've ever seen as well. Usually 2 week turn around time to get rebates from the day I sent them out.

Maxtor is fast too with RMA.. They better be, they probably have a million a day 😛

I just bought 2 300gb drives.. I hope they'll be okay..
