Thank God for Microsofts Scanner and Camera Wizard

Well, I formated and did a fresh install today and I'd backed up everything except.... 90+ pictures I'd forgotten to move off my OS partition. I just realized this a few minutes ago and promplty sh!t a brick. Bunch of pictures of a truck I'm selling that would be a pain to take again, irreplacable pictures of my pooch, etc. After beating my head against the desk for a few minutes I thought to check my camera. And tada!! Since the wizard never moves pictures but copies them instead all was still on my camera 🙂 Anyway, useless post but the relief is strong in me and you all must share it with me 🙂

My Nikon's software does that too.

ie Doesn't move the files off the CF card during copying. Hence the term copying.

Eh, while I do have a Canon (S400) I don't use their software but rather the MS wizard instead. My boss' old Minoltia Dimage (can't remember actual model) actually tranfered everything off the card. Which kind of sucked because if the batteries went dead while you were transfering you lost everything. *shrugs*

I don't like the Windows WIA driver thingy or Scanner and Camera Wizard. I much prefer the manufacturer's own camera interface. At least for my Canon A40, I liked it better using Win98SE (Canon's driver) before installing WinME (WIA driver). There seemed to be more options and settings.

Windows XP's built-in drivers and Scanner Wizard provide the only way for me to use my HP Scanjet 3300C. HP's drivers sucked bad enough on Win98/ME, they barely worked on Windows 2000, and they don't work at all (as far as I can tell) on Windows XP. The Scanner and Camera Wizard works well enough that it lets me continue to use this scanner until I can get a replacement (hopefully an Epson Perfection 3200 Photo 😛).

Can't decide is MS actually helps or hinders our lifestyle. On one hand, they have security holes left and right... but on the same token, they keep IT people employed because of that... especially MIS type people who keep the software in check for all the users...

Sorta like why Norton Antivirus is glad there are script kiddies in this world.

Indeed, without people like Ameesh f*cking up code 90% of us would have no job.

That's about the extent of troubleshooting today, eh? Format and start over. Brilliant!

I use that wizard over Canon software everyday

me too.

when i got my new S400, i didn't even bother opening up the Canon software 🙂
Except that the Canon software probably does (a lot) more than just transfer files.

Can anyone state exactly what it includes? Frankly, if it's not flat-out necessary, I won't install add-on software.

For the record, I do not like the WIA scanning interface used with an HP OfficeJet. I know simplicity is king, but it's simply an inefficient, dumb design. While it was overly powerful, the Microtek Scanwizard TWAIN scanning interface was a lot more usable (and you could hide/ignore much of the complexity).

i just did it too.. but that's cause i'm lazy and was installing a whole lot of software testing stuff 🙂 that and i need to resize some partitions and didn't feel like messing w/ partition magic...

but back to the subject... the built in wizard is nice, but it doesn't support canon's picture orientation feature.
