Thai Hotel Bans US Tourist as War Protest

Pavilion Resort Bans US Tourist
Below is the entire article . . . you gotta love Yahoo.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - A hotel on the Thai holiday island of Koh Samui has banned American tourists in a protest against the U.S.-led war in Iraq (news - web sites), its owner said on Friday.

Virach Pongchababnapa, owner of the 62-room Pavilion Resort on the island, 550 miles south of Bangkok, said U.S. visitors were not welcome because he was against the U.S. campaign to overthrow Iraqi President Saddam Hussein (news - web sites).

He said he had already turned away two American tourists, provoking protest letters and emails from other U.S. citizens.

"I have politely told them that I am opposed to the policies of their government, and Americans are not welcome here," he told Reuters. "My resort is against war mongers."

A spokesman for the U.S. embassy in Bangkok was not available for immediate comment.

Virach needs to get with the program . . . doesn't he know Americans only visit:

Afghanistan . . . the rocks are really pretty this time of year.
Colombia . . . bring a side arm and a security detail.
Estonia . . . bring a gas mask (one of the most polluted of the former Soviet Republics).
Italy . . . thank goodness that peacenik Pope lives in Vatican City and doesn't pollute the rest of Italy.
Marshall Islands . . . nice locale but still litigating b/c some poo poo head country used to test nukes there.
Poland . . . new Europe is a lot cheaper than old Europe.
Solomon Islands . . . South Pacific is nice but visit before all of the coral dies (pollution/global warming?).
United States . . . most Americans can't name 10 state capitals but there's still no place like home.
Angola . . . AFRICA . . . and they have oil and intermittent despotic regimes . . . NEXT.
Czech Republic . . . Prague is twice the fun of Paris at half the price . . . plus there are few French in Prague but that damn flag looks . . .
Ethiopia . . . dark skinned descendants of Israel and its NOT Somalia.
Japan . . . buy Japanese . . . oops, we already do.
Micronesia . . . US welfare recipient.
Portugal . . . Azores . . . and a historical note. In 1974, a left-wing military coup installed broad democratic reforms. The following year Portugal granted independence to all of its African colonies.
South Korea . . . few good beaches but possibly the most attractive women in Asia.
Uzbekistan . . . highlights; insurgency by Islamic militants based in Tajikistan and Afghanistan, a nonconvertible currency, and the curtailment of human rights and democratization . . . oh and US ally in war against terrorism.
Albania . . . great episode of Simpsons.
Denmark . . . trying to wiggle away from the EU with a right of center government.
Georgia . . . GA is a country?
Kuwait . . . democratic-ally in the . . . well they are an ally . . . but avoid looking like an American while visiting.
Mongolia . . . China-lite.
Romania . . . great place to adopt a neglected baby.
Spain . . . our ally where the people cheered in the streets when their president announced he wouldn't send any troops.
Australia . . . great place to live and work.
Dominican Republic . . . quality baseball and not quite the poorest country in the hemisphere.
Honduras . . . Chiquita.
Latvia
Netherlands . . . bring a paddle.
Rwanda . . . gee, this is too easy.
Turkey . . . YES, NO, YES, NO, MAYBE.
Azerbaijan
El Salvador
Hungary
Lithuania
Nicaragua . . . Saddam should have learned something from Noriega's fall from American grace.
Singapore . . . cleanest city on the planet but debauchery requires a serious effort and at least two lookouts.
Uganda
Bulgaria
Eritrea . . . virgin females should stay at home.
Iceland
Macedonia
Philippines . . . Mexico of the Pac Rim.
Slovakia
United Kingdom . . . visit Blair before he has to find a new job.

Don't mind the dodgy Thai government!

It's not as if many americans go to Thailand anyway.

It's not the government . . . it's just one guy saying he didn't want any sticking Americans occupying one of the 58 out of 60 vacant rooms at his resort. But as soon as the old European men end their two week sex vacation he will be begging Americans to come.

I think it may be an isolated situation
I was just in Bangkok and most thai people have alot of love for us Americans.
Actually I think the Japanese then Americans visit thailand the most.

As a generalization, I would say Thai are the most hospitable people in the world. Could you imagine the carnage in NYC or LA if traffic was anything like Bangkok?! Ko Samui and Ko Phi Phi have lost a little bit of charm (over-developed) but they are wonderful places to visit.

The only reason an American would go to Bangkok anyway is so we can thoroughly defile thier women. A promise of a Quarter Pounder with cheese and a supersized order of fries will have them on a plane to America so fast that it seems stupid for us to go all the way to that sh!t hole in the first place.

They are next on the list.

I'm enlisting when we go after the terrorist cells on the French Riviera . . . well actually, it looks like I might be selected through Selective Service. I don't have a link but I today's paper mentioned musings in the DOD about a stand-by list of physicians, nurses, and other health professionals up to age 44. I'm a conscientious objector but since I wouldn't be shooting anything except Lidocaine I may not win that argument.

The resort is on Ko Samui NOT Bangkok. They have some really good beaches and snorkeling . . . it's like swimming in an aquarium. As for defiling women . . . gee dude you've got issues.

Ah yes, the infamous false sense of superiority of an Americans. And they wonder why some view American as a**hole

I was born in Phnom Peng.

Well you get some crazy people.

Did you guys here about this Thai star on tv dissing the Cambodians? Well the Cambodians went to the Thai embassy and went mental at the place and started to wreck it and I think beating on the Thai people. Crazy ahey? All because one Thai star bad mouthed them or did something along those lines. The Cambodian government then pay for the trouble and damages caused. Dam both of their governments are bent.

Death by association
He never imagined he'd be vulnerable because his chain of stores was named French Cleaners.
The Lebanese native said he only picked the name on a whim, making the Eiffel Tower the stores' logo. But as relations between the United States and France soured over war with Iraq, Frik said he was hit by the backlash.
Customers have spit on checks and passers-by make obscene gestures, he said. On Wednesday, his Modesto store was damaged in a fire. He said he later learned his two other stores had been vandalized.

Let's hear it for American tolerance . . .

"stinking Americans", eh?

If we stink so bad, why don't you practice elsewhere, sir? Since you live in Chapel Hill I assume you went to Duke or North Carolina. If this country stinks so bad, why not pursue your education elsewhere?

I am not saying love it or leave it - I am asking why you choose to continue living here if we offend your sensibilities so much.
