I LOVE Thai food. My favorite dish is Pad Prik Kra Pow (sauteed chicken with red & green peppers, onions, etc in a spicy basil sauce).

Damn you - now you've made me hungry!

Dave.

Pad Thai is probably the best introduction if you've never had Thai food. Much different than other asian noodle dishes, plenty of unique Thai flavor, but nothing too exotic.
I've tried lots of different Thai dishes, and Pad Thai is still my favorite.
In fact, it's the one dish I routinely make at home. Smells terrible when you first start cooking it, but ends up being delicious.

When they ask for how spicy you want the food, ask for mild. I love spicy foods but I haven't been to a thai restaurant where I've enjoyed medium spicy. If they ask for a number from a scale of 1 to 10 (where 10 is the spiciest), pick 2 or 3.

You think it's hot going in? Well, it's just as hot coming out! 😀

PAD is a FAD with a MAD and SAD CAD!

i agree... pad see ew is the best. i eat it with tofu cuz i'm vegetarian... great stuff.

the thai iced tea is seriously one of the best drinks i've ever had.

and... no matter how much you like spicy food... NEVER EVER order something "thai hot". thailand has a completely different concept of spiciness over us.

most places offer a scale of 1-5 or so of how hot you want your food to be... i usually get like a 2 i think.

Honestly try the Pad Thai first then after you've gotten it out of your system try some of the other stuff. The mint chicken is awesome,

Soup: Tom Yum Goong(shrimp) (this can get extra spicy because its also has lemon juice in it)
Appetizers: Mee Krob (crispy noodles, sweet/sour), of course Satay (bbq chicken skewers).
Entres: Ground Mint Chicken, Panang Curry, Pad see-ew

Watch out of course with the spicy levels.

Oh and when its in season, you have to get the mango and sticky rice with coconut milk.

DO NOT TRY THE DURIAN.

Some of the best thai food is in Los Angeles.

Thai dishes I eat often (recommendations in bold):
1. Pad thai
2. Panang curry (usually offered with shrimp/chicken/tofu)
3. Tom yum (spelling?) soup (this gets spicy, so be careful. also, opt for shrimp instead of any other choice)
4. Green/red curry (again offered with shrimp/chicken/tofu)

Definitely go for the thai ice tea. Also, any entree that has basil in it's name is good 🙂

edit: obligatory Pad Thai linkage from Wikipedia
