TG: Ford mustang vs mustang

Only one question: Why are they driving a V6 Mustang and calling it a V8? They aren't even driving the V6 with the sport suspension (pony package), but rather the base V6 convertible which has even softer suspension than the base V6.

Because Clarkson hates absoulutely everything associated with America and goes out of his way to make it look as bad as it can.

That would also explain the craptastic launch and the choice of a 1/4 mile oval that's strewn with dirt to give the car basically no chance at all.

well, in fairness to the horse, it did run around the outside of the course, which is actually longer than the course itself, lol.

there was a quick shot of the track, it look like it said willow springs.

It's _a_ "Willow Springs", but not _the_ "Willow Springs".

The "Willow Springs" 1/4 mile oval used in the video is a track in Rosamond, CA that has not been used since 1997.

Link to the "Willow Springs" track in the Top Gear video.

Just another example of the typical distortion of truth employed by that show.

How well can you launch with an auto?

I doubt many people are cross-shopping horses and cars anyway so...uh...no reason to feel too bad.

Car and Driver did this years ago.
They also did a Dodge Intrepid vs. USS Intrepid, and a Chevrolet Berreta vs. Berreta 9mm.

That would explain why he loves the viper and has a gt50, right?

Idiot.

It's easier to launch an auto than a manual. You just hold the brake in for a bit. I've driven the V6 and while it's definitely not as forceful as my GT, the V6 Mustang can still spin the tires pretty easily off the line. Clarkson was sandbagging the launch. (And the whole test, but that's already established.)

It's not an issue of feeling bad, I'd be pointing out the same flaws if it were any other car. The test was not a test at all, but rather a carefully choreographed piece designed specifically to produce the outcome that Clarkson wanted.

Yep, launching an auto is much easier (unless you have LC or something on a manual), also as I am sure you know, put it into nueatral then press down on the brakes so you can get it down furthur then into D.

Lower left corner of windshield. You can see it at 1:22 in the video.

Its a base V6 out of CA Hertz fleet. Its a rental!!!!!!

Vehicle # 1298-2242758. He just voided the terms and conditions of his rental agreement.

*note, personal info on Clarkson withheld due to privacy laws.

I think this is an older episode. I will update once I've completed a more detailed investigation.

Stay tuned.

Vin #1zvft84n565206252
LIC# 5TTL776 CA

Delivery date:03/20/2006. First in Hertz service 3/22/2006.

Vehicle is a 2006 Red Mustang Convertible V6. Last oil change at 20708 miles, with change due at 25708.

Hertz vehicle rented out of LAX. Though this particular vehicle has been checked into NV, NM, and surrounding states.

It was bought back by Ford on 11/20 (trans date 11/21) and deactivated from the Hertz system with approx 20829 miles.

I am not at liberty to reveal anymore regarding the specific rental. I don't believe Top Gear had any clearance or permission to test this vehicle in this manner and doing so may have violated the rental agreement. However, I don't feel there is any need to escalate the issue at this time. I just hope next time, in the interest of journalistic integrity, he reports the truth, rather than pull it from his posterior.
