whats the difference between TFT and LCD? does one scales better, because i really want a flatscreen monitor, but i have my desktop resolution on 1280, but i play games at 1024..............

I also read about something called OLED i think coming soon from philips, has anyone heard of these? if so when r they coming out and will they be expensive?

Thanks Graeme

OLCD stands for "organic light emitting diode" some organic materials light up when electricity is passed through them; therefore making thinner LCDs easier to manufacture because no backlight is required.

Edit: Fixed BFE (Brain Fart Error)
Damn this was my 100th post and I have a fricken error in it... how appropriate

ok thanks.............so there are no available flatscreen solutions that would make the transition from 1280 to 1024 without looking utterly horrible?

will the oled's be able to scale different resolutions?

One thing to keep in mind though is that OLED displays, at this stage, only last about a year... hopefully that will be remedied.

TFT and LCD aren't the same thing, as TFT is a type of LCD... you also get Passive Matrix LCD's. The difference being that TFT screens have a transistor for each pixel, whereas the passive matrix kind reference the pixels by what row and column they're in. Needless to say, TFT based LCD's have better image quality and faster response times.

There's a useful bit of info relating to LCD's here.

EDIT: I have a 17" TFT based LCD screen and it scales pretty well to 1024x768. It's connected through DVI

just find an LCD that comes natively at 1024...usually the cheaper brands have lower resolutions like 1024, and the better quality brands have higher resolutions like 1900. I actually prefer lower resolutions on my CRTs...running my 21' at 1280...why bother squinting...
